I've been hosting my sites at a lot of places, tried both free hosts and paid hosts, most disappointed me (and still do), and the ones that did offer great services usually disappeared after a while. I'm hosting this site on a cheap shared server, along with a few other personal sites, but I'm always looking for a better offer, and yesterday I stumbled right on one. Magma Host has cheap hosting from just $1/month, even cheaper if you sign up for a full year! They give you 8GB space and 40GB bandwidth and unlimited amounts on all the other features you'll need. They have reseller hosting too, and this month you'll get a 64% recurring discount (as long as you stay hosted there) on the first plan, which then just costs just $2.5 per month! 25GB space and 130GB bandwidth, and it's a reseller, you can create an unlimited amount of accounts for yourself and other users and use your space however you want to (legally). I jumped the offer immediately, had some problems with the discount not working, so I emailed them about it, and they replied in 20 minutes! Haha, probably just luck, but so far they've been a great hosting experience. Fast servers too. Feel happy? Then go sign up using my referral URL and you'll make me happy too. :)
If you need more info you'll find it on their website, but here's a few quick facts for those interested: Domain names cost $10/year if you register with them (you can register them elsewhere and point it to their name-servers OR shared IP (!) though), you can get a dedicated IP for $1/month, they've been in business since 2007, in summer 2009 they shut down their VPS services, I never heard of them before I visited the site - but I've Googled them - mostly good reviews, they use LiteSpeed instead of Apache - but it still supports anything you might need from an Apache server such as mod_rewrite, etc & you can host your site in either USA or UK (the one closest to you will be the faster choice). Also, most large hosts nowadays provide you with unlimited space and bandwidth, and that might make this seem a bit limited, but unlimited doesn't exist, the fact is that if you read the TOS on most hosts you'll find that there is a cache, such as you not being allowed to use up more than 4% of a servers resources, that 70% of your files must be below 1MB in file-size, that you can't host community websites (forums, etc) so you will never really be able to use up all your alloted web-space, even if you do have a big-ass limit like 250GB. In other words, hosts that provide you with reasonable limitations, such as this one, are generally more trustworthy. I'm not saying you should blindly trust any host, but I've read through their TOS, and it's much much more reasonable than any of the large hosts like WHB, Hostgator, 1&1, SiteGround, Etc. While you might get away with hosting a community at for example WHB, they will suspend your account immediately if you ever start using more resources than they would like you too, which sucks, I've had my shared hosting account suspended three times, and each time I had to delete a large section of files to keep my hosting.
Now though, I have a backup location to move things to if my shared host turns sour, woo, and a place to host any community sites I might want to fire up (and I do). Also, if you need hosting for a website, let me know, I can provide you with a small free account (10-100MB), or a larger paid account with custom features according to your needs. I'll be starting a small web-hosting site with solid plans in 2010, until then prices are lower, spaces are bigger & my email is right there.
