Installing Windows 98

For a long time now I've had an old laptop lying around unused.

It used to have Windows XP on it, until I went and installed a couple of Linux systems on separate partitions of the main drive (by mistake) instead of replacing the current installation. The system started getting incredibly slow and rich in errors and ultimately I could no longer boot up any one of the operating systems I had installed, so I stashed the laptop away and there it has been, stashed away, until now.

The old laptop I'm speaking about is a metallic Compaq Armada M300, a little seemingly very robust gadget that's surprisingly energetic for its age. It used to function as an office computer for my dad, until the company gave him a newer model, and it fell into my hands when the old Macintosh (system 7, now 15 years old) I had been using suddenly became very outdated very fast. With this new portable machine I could browse the net, play resource-heavy (at this time) 3D FPS games, driving games, play music & do all sorts of entertaining things. Eventually a stationary computer was bought and this old spectacle found peace in a dusty closet. Until that time when I picked it up again and decided to try out Linux on it. Big mistake.

Apparently I reinstalled Windows XP on it, successfully, some time after that, because when I booted it up today, that's the OS it was running. It was, however, not the OS I wanted, so I burned Killdisc (free program that lets you purge all data from a computer of choice) to a CD and got rid of everything to make way for a clean install. I think there were still some remnants from the different Linux variations I had installed earlier since the drive was, before it was purged, divided up into a myriad of strange partitions. Killdisc cleaned up the mess quickly.

I rebooted with a brand new copy of Slax, a free resource-light linux system of which you can handpick components or modules as they call them (games, programs, programming languages, etc) before creating an img file out of everything, downloading it, burning it and installing it. Only problem was, it didn't install, it turns out the OS could run straight from the CD (which it did very well I should add). I went online to search for installation instructions, but for a lazy... err, crazily efficient individual like me they were way to complicated and time-consuming so I dismissed the project.

Instead I chose to install Windows 98. Reason being: there are quite a few old games I'd love to play that neither Windows XP or Windows 7 support. In fact, Windows 7 supports pretty much everything Windows XP did, so I chose to install something older. I have a Windows 95 floppy lying around, but that felt a bit overkill in the retroretro scale... I've never even used Windows 95. Unless I stumble upon another cheap computer I can install it on just to try it out, I probably never will either.

Windows 98 installed nicely, seemingly without problems. The procedure took a long time (about 2 hours), and as I was typing this the estimated time renaming was 21 minutes, with the file copy procedure already up at 99%. Turns out there were only a few seconds remaining though, because now it's all done! Oh wait, turns out I have to manually install a CD drivers before installing all other drivers, as that would lead to me not being able to access the installation disc after installation. I think I suddenly realized why people prefer newer Windows versions over the older ones. I'll persevere though, and tell you all about how everything goes when everything has gone.. hopefully well. :)

Later.

Breathe

Yeah, busy day. Workflow paced by Yelawolf offsite, smooth rhymes and riffs right, sorting files monotonly in rich light, bet I'll be snoring high this night. Storm tomorrow, bet the wind will rip kites. Later.

Copter Insania 2

Yupp, that game is still crazily addicting after all.

It’s January 02 And I Had To Post A Blog…

...so now I've posted the blog. There.

Nah just kidding, post of the day is uploading as I speak. The post is uploading? What? The huh, you say? I'll give you a clue but it's more of a spoiler: images. Hey, don't complain, it's 2 AM in the morning and I'm... no wait, it's just 21:16... but I'm still really really tired.

So, after the post after this post I'm going to bed... though I just might read the five remaining Phantom comics under the bedside table, write a diary entry, write the required creative text of the day and finish isolating the briefcase I'm isolating for technical electrical products first. Not to forget watch Hunter X Hunter episode 13. Anyway... it's January 02 of the new year 2012 and I've now posted a blog. Hasta very soon.

Resolutions 2012

I aim to keep things simple this year. Before the clock struck midnight yesterday and the skies filled with fire I scribbled down a list of goals and resolutions. I aim to fulfill them all this year. After some restructuring and elaboration on what my resolutions really mean, I wrote this. Here's what I will and won't do 2012 (in no specific order, everything of equal importance this year):

  • I will not watch anything (movies, series, anime, videoclips, etc) until all unfinished business is finished. When I say unfinished business I'm mostly thinking about my websites, of which most have not been updated or updated properly (IOW, are getting really messy) in far too long. I have unused domains lying around. I have email still not backed up. I have studies left over. I have a lot of work to do.
  • I will take at least one 30 minute walk every single day of the new year. I usually take a 30-40 minute walk every morning anyway, but usually is not enough.
  • I will improve my vision continuously by exercising my eyes at least 5 minutes every morning and afternoon and taking a one minute break from the computer at least once every 20 minutes. In the past I've been sitting waaaay too long by the computer without rest. Bad habit.
  • I will improve physically by exercising frequently and forming a new exercise plan every month. No definite promises on the outcome yet, but basically I hope to be in better shape at the end of this year than I have ever been before.
  • I will eat healthier. If I'm depressed or tired or watching a movie I won't be lured by the temptations of eating large quantities of whatever consumptionable material is accessible.
  • I will brush my teeth at least twice every day.
  • I will write a blog every day. By this I don't mean I'll have at least 365 posts by the end of the year, I mean I'll actually post something every day. Not necessarily long posts, but always something. I'll feed the blog as if it were alive.
  • I will write a diary entry every day. Privately. You won't be getting any of this. ;) I barely wrote any entries offline in 2011, and even before that I've never managed to go a whole year without missing at least a month or two.
  • I will write at least one poem, lyric, chapter in a book or other creative text every day.
  • I will not waste time. Time is easily wasted by re-reading things I don't need to re-read, browsing YouTube (or other sites) when I have other things to do, or just sitting by the computer when I'm tired and not capable of thinking efficiently. Time is also wasted by doing things I don't need or even want to do, like reorganize files that are already organized, or watch a movie just for the sake of having watched it.
  • I will contact at least one artist and offer my lyrical services a specific day every week. I'm thinking every Monday, since I like getting things done as soon as possible. So that's tomorrow... any suggestions on which artist I should contact first? Or even better, are you an artist that needs contacting? Let me know!
  • Every day I will do at least 10 situps, 10 pushups, 10 squats. This is just a minimum. Even if I'm sick I'll be able to manage this... and a 30 minute walk.
  • I will stretch at least twice every day, morning and afternoon.
  • I will become self-sufficient this year. I wanted to say I'd get my own place, my own car, a new computer... but all material wealth will have to wait. This is the big goal.
  • If I feel unmotivated or tired, I will take a walk, exercise, speak to someone, or rest instead of pertaining to other forms of entertainment or working inefficiently when things need to be done.
  • I will practice vocals everyday. If not in shower, then during a walk. If not during a walk, then as a separate session, just not by the computer.

Those are my resolutions. So what will I actually be doing this brand new year? Studying? Working? Designing websites? Writing lyrics? You know as much about that as I do, except that I have big plans. Real big... maybe too big... as always. :) Time to start refurnishing this website and this one and just checking this one to see if it's perfect or not. It's a start. ;)

Sail on!

Happy New Year!

It's 0:11 here, and so far it's been a great one. :)

Happy New Year!

From here on out it can't get much better, but we'll see, I aim to turn 2012 into something amazing. ;) Let the fireworks fill the night sky! Let the gunpowder smoke fill the air till we cough and can't breath! Let it drift through our dusty streets in festive nostalgia as the colors bloom overhead! Woohoo.
Happy New Year everybody!
