I can't believe I missed this movie earlier! It's not just a movie either, it's a whole trilogy. Not that it's that amazing a trilogy, there's nothing that makes it stand out above the rest, and that's probably the reason why I've never heard about it earlier. It's good action though, and it reminds me of the Rambo series, from the same decade too. I guess all movies can't make the headlights, some have to stay in the shadows, and this seems to be the movie in the shade this time around.
The main character, a tough veteran army sniper with no life (or rather, no other life), is played by an actor I've never seen earlier. I thought at the beginning that it might have been Dolf Lundgren, but it turns out it wasn't.
The movie plot is simple. The classic clash of good and evil, the arrogant boss, the cocky rookie, people getting killed, someone getting tortured, a few explosions, and some nice footage of a seemingly lush and leafy forest. There are also some philosophical conversations of life and war and what-not, added the suspense you get with snipers crawling around waiting for something to happen or just waiting, or crawling around. It gave me the satisfaction I get from any good action movie.
I think it's a movie I'll remember, despite the lack of effectfullness and that missing extra element that could have turned this regular dime in a dussin run of the mill good but just decent piece of action into something amazing. Maybe a better actor. Maybe not, maybe this is as good as it can get.
