15 Mini Reviews #2

I decided to review some sequels. So expect sequels. :P

Afro Samurai - Resurrection (2009)

The second part of Afro Samurai fails to beat the original. In difference from the first, it's in movie format and not multiple episodes. The animation is still insanely detailed. The music is still made by the RZA. Overall it's a great anime, but it just doesn't beat the original. We already know Afro's story. The enemies are both new and old, the plot differs but there's really not much to see. If you stil haven't had enough of Afro Samurai I guess it's a must see anyway... though.

Air Gear - Break On The Sky (2010)

Air Gear was a good anime, but it always felt like it had more potential than what they turned it into. The animation didn't always capture the flow, the movements were not as realistic as they could have been and the series didn't maintain a steady rhythm. sometimes I felt cheated, but overall it was good. In similar to the anime above this is also a sequel in movie format, so no episodes. It's also more detailed, and it goes faster than the anime does, but they still haven't managed to improve enough to keep up with the potential for the plot. Still worth watching if you liked the series, but it could have been oh so much better!

 rated 3/5: not bad

Beet The Vandel Buster Exelion (2005)

Beet The Vandel Buster is a great series. Everything is good about it, though the characters aren't always as strong personalitywise as I'd like them to be. The only problem with this second part of the series that was released as a sequel is that it ends way too quickly. The first part had... a lot of episodes (... being pause and failure to remember how many), but this one didn't, and the end isn't nearly as satisfying as I would have liked it to be. Did I spoil it for ya? It's still worth watching. :)

 rated 3/5: not bad

Bible Black Origins (2002)

Bible Black Origins is a prequel to the original series. Kind of paradoxal title, huh? Not as good as the original IMHO, but still damn good. If you like Bible Black you will like this. Oh btw, for those of you who don't know: it's hentai.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Bible Black - New Testament (2004)

Big skip forward in time, and it looks like the rituals have moved up a notch. It's become a crime that the police are dealing with, and the two lead investigators are obviously female. A great sequel, with just as many episodes as the original.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Bible Black Only (2006)

So what happened to all the girls from the original Bible Black series after the series? This spin-off tells us those tales. It's a short spin-off with mostly action and virtually no plot, but out of the four parts so far this probably my favorite. Recommended.

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome

The Cat Returns (2002)

The cat returns from where? I don't know if there is a prequel, but I would love to see it. If you've seen My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited Away you'll recognize the movie style. It's adventurous, mysterious and imaginative... not to mention for all ages. Great movie.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Chrono Trigger (1996)

Simple OAV linked to the game. I haven't played to the game, but this was entertaining anyway. It was one of the first anime I watched so I didn't have very expectations. Does it still hold qualitywise? IDK, but at the time it was good. Action. Adventure. Interesting characters. It had all of it, except a refined and lengthy plot.

 rated 3/5: not bad

Eden Of The East Movie - King Of Eden (2009)

The Eden Of The East movie is way better than the series. Way better in that more detail has been put into the drawing and the movements are much smoother and the story progresses much faster, otherwise it's basically the same plot as the series. Even if you've watched the series though, this movie is worth watching. One of the (if not the) best anime movies I saw this year.

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome

Eden Of The East Movie 2 - Paradise Lost (2010)

If this was the only East Of Eden movie out there, I'd have given it a five, but as it is it's not as good as the prequel. Still a good movie, but nothing new.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Fullmetal Allchemist Brotherhood (2009)

YES! Finally a happy ending! Oh wait, spoiler alert.

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome

Full Metal Panic! Second Raid (2005)

Same thing as the first part, just more of it. Great anime.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Ghost In The Shell 2 - Innocence (2004)

Sadly nothing will ever beat the original Ghost in the Shell movie. That one had it all. It'll remain a classic not just because it's old and good, but because the plot was complex, futuristic and philosophical dealing with such heavy subjects and reality and relativity. The animation was incredibly smooth and the surroundings always so detailed you need to watch the movie more than once to fully appreciate them. This movie is good, no doubt about it, but it still doesn't match the standards set by the first. The effects feel... too flashy. There's more CGI and less detail. Compared to the series, though, it's still amazing.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

Hatsu Inu 2 - Strange Kind Of Womans ~Again~ (2008)

If you liked the first, this won't disappoint. I did.

 rated 3/5: not bad

HeartCatch Precure! - Fashion Show In The City Of Flowers (2010)

No comment. HeartCatch Precure! just isn't my type of anime.

 rated 2/5: decent
