Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

It's that time of the year again, when you're free to either be someone else, or to finally be yourself! There are no limits to who or what you can be, or what you can do, so let your imagination roam limitlessly in the form of creative cosplay and almost criminal craze. Have a good one! :)

Week 43 - Halloween! Almost...

I was supposed to attend a traditional yearly Halloween party arranged by buddy Bear this Friday, but diffuse health issues came in the way. They come and go, and for the past month I have been wondering if I really am having any issues or if it's all in my head... but occasionally proof presents itself in more definite symptoms than just occasional nausea, lack of appetite and a eh... troubled digestive system. Like yesterday, when we were invited to a cousin for lunch. The platter was served with a small portion of fish and fries - and lots of salad. I love fish, and fries even more so, but I made an attempt to limit my portion, eating just half a plate of this delicious dish. Apparently however that was more than enough to make my stomach rebel and have me abstain from any desert or other food the rest of the day or morning after (excluding a tiny slice of apple pie... that went down OK). The after-effects presented themselves yesterday as more than just a little uneasiness, and this morning in a thorough cleansing... almost as if it'd been food poisoning. Though I wasn't happy about it at the time, skipping that Halloween party seems like the right choice after all! I'm thinking this is either gastritis or some temporary bacteria I need to flush out, so... what to do?

I'm starting an experiment tomorrow, attempting a diet completely without wheat, milk or sugar for a full week... and I'm phasing into this new diet today. Breakfast isn't quite as fun as usual but if this makes me feel better it's definitely worth it. If it doesn't, I can at least exclude these commonly allergy-inducing ingredients as not being the culprits in this sinister plot to mock my health (I mean, I eat healthier than most people, so why am I a victim of stuff like this?!). How did this all start? Well, it seems to have begun on this one fateful day when I ventured into the city, watched a movie and ate a pizza. Might have been the pizza. A life without pizza?! :O That'd be the ultimate sacrifice. On second thought it's probably not the pizza, it could be anything. Anyway...

Apart from worrying about all this shizzle I've been working on a couple of animations for a couple of collaborations over at NG, ordered some new apparel for the winter, coded a preloader I'm mighty proud of but can't reveal until the collaboration it'll be used in has been posted, working on a final animational Halloween concept today, recording a bit, writing a bit, walking a bit; working a bit. Also watched a couple of movies I might post reviews for when time allows. I took three long walks/jogs on Friday, as if I'd been struck by the sudden realization that exercise = health. YEAH! WALK! JOG! RUN! GET OUT OF HERE! Or stay, if you like... your choice. Here's last week.

Week 42 - Closed Windows

I'm a bit late in posting, we had the windows open, now they're closed you know because the wind it blows in. Heck of ventilation, it vents it way in, the breeze it sweeps up dust geese and they spin. Up in the air, everywhere they fare, everywhere is fair share, they were here and there now they're scarce. Now the house is tidy, so I add a smiley. :) I have all I need, I feel fine - life's nice and shiny. Though it can be a hybrid, goes from pristine to shitstream quick as the flick of a wrist, and it seems: like there's no avoiding the lows, no no, but now I'm back up so you know I'm on a roll, posting old movie reviews and a late post for week 42, and so, last weeks post's below.

High Risk (1995)

High Risk (1995)

The story starts off with Jet Li as some military officer. A school bus has been booby trapped and his wife and daughter (or was it son?) are in it. Someone called The Doctor calls him and mocks him, asking if he's been able to disarm the bomb yet. He tells his assistant to cut the red wire (one out of two choices) and... the bus blows up.

We skip forward some years to a time when he's working as a bodyguard and stunt double for his brother, Frankie, a martial artist (who acts a bit like Jackie but fights a bit like Bruce, and is probably meant to be a parody of both), and then one day... shit hits the fan! They both get involved in a complex coup/hostage situation... and it turns out The Doctor is the one pulling the strings.

There's a car chase in a building, a car in an elevator, a car bursting out of an elevator, snakes, helicopters, crazy firepower, martial arts, drama, love, comedy, action, adventure - this movie pretty much has it all! The level of realism isn't too high, but it's not meant to be, so you'd better watch the movie wanting to be entertained. If you liked movies like Black Mask and City Hunter there's a High Risk you'll love this, it's like a mixture of both, HK action when it is as best!

Yes Man (2008)

Yes Man (2008)

I'm a yes man, so when I asked myself if I wanted to watch this movie the answer was unavoidably: you know it. I mean, yes! It's a Jim Carrey movie too so you know it's going to be good... or crazy at least.

The idea is simple: what would life be like, if you said yes to every offer you were given? It turns out life would be... pretty messy. I don't really know what more to say about the movie other than... it was a fun watch. Not as good a few Carrey Classics, but a recommended watch nevertheless.

Resident Evil 5 - Retribution (2012)

Resident Evil 5 - Retribution (2012)

So they did it again, they killed off another one of the characters from the games. This time Barry. Or maybe he wasn't the game-character Barry? It's a whole new universe after all, the movie universe, completely different from the games. And it all ends with the Last Stand. So, I guess there'll be another Resident Evil movie at least, before this whole franchise can finally die down. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the regular Resident Evil portion of ass-kicking and special effects, but they're going further away from the series for every movie they make. It just gets bigger and bigger, crazier and crazier, worse and worse.

Resident Evil, the original, the movie that started it all, that one was worth watching. It was jumpy, it was intense, and there was plenty of action. It had everything the original games had, including the lack of ammo, the zombies crawling all over the place, the no-safe-zone in a world where surprises lurk around every corner. In other words: perceptible danger.

The movies have gone far far away from that now. When they introduced the clones it went downhill, when Chris died it hit rock bottom. Now, suddenly, none of the former main characters are really dead because obviously there are clones for everyone, and they tried picking some elements (such as the Red Queen) from the original movie (that everybody actually liked) to further fuck around with these likable elements and turn them into something... less likable. The new Red Queen is just... I don't know... it's just on a too large scale to be spooky anymore. This was a good movie, fun to watch, but the whole RE franchise is being blown to shit for every new movie being made. I thought it couldn't get worse after the last one. Yeah, well... it did. Still looking forward to the sequel though. That's the worst part.
