6 Anticipated Movie Sequels 2012 Aftermath

This is just a quick rant on what I thought about the 6 movies I was looking forward to the most during the year before the last. A bit late I know, but here we go...

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 wasn't quite what I'd wished for. It didn't have the same mystique and sense of isolation as the first, nor did it have that morbid darkness and distress. It was just full of clichés. I wrote a review about it.

Golden Compass 2

I already knew there wouldn't be a sequel to the The Golden Compass... but I'm still hoping!

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight was awesome. It was the best Batman movie I'd ever seen... and it still is. It took the series to the point where I'd consider even a fictional superhero like Batman a favorite, and I never had that superhero kind of raising. But The Dark Knight Rises was... not as good as I hoped. You could say it was on par with the one before it. It had an Inception-style ending as you'd expect a single movie would... not one with a sequel. It had battles that seemed surprisingly down-to-Earth and normal. It was good; in fact you could call it great (acting and filmography were both masterful), but it just wasn't as awesome as it could've been. Because Batman starts out a tired and weakened fool maybe? Well I hoped for more.

The Expendables 2

All action actors packed together in one movie. With even more of them than in the first one! I knew I'd enjoy watching this! :) Even more so than the first one. In fact, way more, not least because Arnold was in it. And JC Van Damme played a killer killer. I've been hyped up about the third one since this one... and that was almost two years ago now!

Ice Age: Continental Drift

The first Ice Age movie was great. The second was good. The third was OK. This one was good. Angelina Jolie played a tigress and... well, it was good. Not a classic, but a worthy sequel; somewhat better than the third. Even if all the main plot elements and puns keep being repeated to life. I wrote a review too.

Men In Black

Aw yeah, they're back! And still kicking butt. Even though Tommy Lee Jones has aged quite a bit since the last one, he's still got it, and of course Will Smith still has it. That goes without saying. It was a worthy sequel and (I hope) the end of the trilogy as well.

All in all? It was a good year, with some good movies, though these were far from the best ones released in 2012. Best one of the list? I'd say MIB 3. See the original post here.

I Saw My Nephew On TV Today

Aint that cool? He was getting interviewed at school. Now, I was going to post this post a while back - I just sketched out this title in this textfile where I jot down all these everyday things as they happen - but I never got to posting it, so it was a while back but... now you know. It's pretty cool.

Until Inspiration Ends In Abrupt Halt

It's morning
I'm sitting in the dark
The curtain is closed
I guess I should open it
And let in the sun
And let the plants soak in
Their chlorophyll coating
Get stronger than anyone
My sister is sleeping
Sleeps till twelve at least
I keep repenting
Like a serpent I dent things
The birds and the Bentleys
They're riding on plenties
I pull out my spent keys
And park where the vent streams
Cool air conditioning
I keep on listening
The wind is whistling
Inside my ear drum
I loathe my earlobe
Fall off like trench coats
From what the stench coats
I fear it's clear so
Let's go and share yo

OMG (2012)

OMG (2012)

In a distant country, a stranger and shop owner (also coincidentially the main character in this movie) insults god, and god initiates an Earthquake that doesn't injure or harm anyone or any thing... apart from his shop.

In debt, and with no insurance provided, as an Earthquake classes as an 'act of god' (in other words: an act not done by a human) he decides to sue God for damages. Unfortunately, no lawyers are willing to go up against the One And Only, but according to the law if lawyers are unwilling to take up a case, then the victim can defend himself. So, he goes to court, against God, or in this case against the salesmen of God - the people who collect tribute and 'sell' their temple services in his name. And that's where it starts to get interesting! He's not just going against God, but he's going against anyone who believes in god, and eventually against those who use God's name to their benefit specially.

It's not just fun, not just crazy action (in fact there's very little action), and our main character isn't really a bad guy, even if he is an Atheist (they say that like it's a bad thing - at first). It's a movie that eventually brings forth a message - a questioning of the commercial aspects of religion. Religion is for sale. Religion is used as a threat. Religion is used as an excuse. The main character has answers for everything, but I'd rather not bring his prophetical preachings into the review. Let me just say that it's more of a revelation than a religious experience - it's a roundabout of ideas and truths - that make us look at the cornerstones of society and re-evaluate them. So, comedy, but also a movie with a message, with depth and profound entertainment. I was surprised, really, positively surprised. Even if the end left a bit to be desired.

Oh, and did I mentioned that God actually appears? In the form of Akshay Kumar. The idea is genius, the script is clever - equally comedic and philosophical, and even in the courtroom there's always something going on. Along with clever reasoning and religious questioning (though it's all very subtly angled) it builds up a both inspiring and entertaining slice of life; fiction or fruition depending on what you believe. The main character starts out an Atheist, a very clever one at that, unbiased and just... though maybe a little cheap. But do you know what it ended with? Faith. I don't mind though, it was great.

Bhoothnath (2008)

Bhoothnath (2008)

Woo, a hindi haunted house movie! Also o9ne with the first dance scene with kids I've ever seen. I recognize one of the main characters from Don, even if he's not present for most of the movie. Feels like I'm getting to know some Bollywood celebrities here. :D

The movie is about a ghost called Nath. Bhooth means Ghost. So, Nath the Ghost - Bhoothnath. It's not a horror movie though, it's more of a comedy with a message. It's equally fun and educational, and though it seems to be aimed at a slightly younger audience I did have a good time with it. Special effects, filmography and plot. It's all good! The actors too, and it has a few pretty deviant dance scenes as well.

Toriko Movie 2 - Bishokushin's Special Menu (2013)

Toriko Movie 2 - Bishokushin's Special Menu (2013)

Now this is more like it! After watching the recent Hunter X Hunter movie I might've forgotten for a moment how awesome anime movies can actually be. Toriko is an awesome series, every episode of it - but the movies, they are a blast past that, and considering the series is over (for now at least) this was a blast from the past as well!

The plot is this: Toriko heads off with Komatsu and that pilot guy to find one of Acacia's secret ingredients, in a special biotope hidden within the 'Hungry Triangle'. Kinda like the Bermuda Triangle you dig? It's an area surrounded by a huge hurricane, with giant fish swimming in the wind, eying them with red eyes, and the biotope itself is smack in the middle of it.

Right about the same time our main characters are making their way here, another character going by the name of Grim leaves the Bishokukai also in search of this certain ingredient, and ultimately with plans on conquering the world and all ingredients in it. The Bishokukai go after him. Toriko confronts him yet realizes quickly that he doesn't have a chance against this incredibly powerful (and awesome - at this point) dude. The rest of the Heavenly Kings join up shortly and give it a go, one after another - as is the tradition, but they are equally helpless. Most of the other noteworthy characters make an appearance in this movie too, along with an army of GT robots (the fight with them doesn't quite get as much attention as it could have... but it's a movie after all, it goes to show there's no filler here!), and a battle of grand portions and proportions begins!

There's a search for ingredients involved as well, and of course there is a message, some pretty intense battles and power-ups and you know the dealeo, some cliches and some nonsense, but it's great, it's spicy, it's hot, it's good. It's awesome! You want some? Don't wait! Go thaw some today! So you can say you saw some when you wake at dawn some day. Yeah.
