Open Season - Boog And Elliot's Midnight Bun Run (2007)

Open Season - Boog And Elliot's Midnight Bun Run (2007)

This was a very short Open Season short that followed with the original DVD, starring the vagrant duo Boog and Elliot (with Mr. Weenie as an unwanted cameo) in a late-night adventure attempting to grab a batch of warm, fragrant, delicious cinnamon buns from Mr. Weenie's owner's RV.

You can actually see the whole thing online here (it's officially free).

It was a fun short! No more no less. Emphasis on short. If you've seen the movie you'll probably enjoy it, and if not you'd better see that one first.

You might enjoy it too.

6 Anticipated Movie Sequels 2018

It's been a couple of years since I posted my last list of sequels I looked forward to, but as a New Year's here and there's quite a few upcoming ones on the horizon I thought I'd revive the habit... at least for this one year.

So here's a few I am really looking forward to. And since sequels are in such surplus these days there's a few more after that at the end.

Keep reading if you want more.

Bad Boys For Life

This one was promised for 2018, but at the time of writing they've apparently postponed it again. After Bad Boys 2 in 2003 - which I still consider one of the best action movies of all time, I have really been looking forward to this one. Bummer it won't be this year, but whichever year is the year it comes out I'm really looking forward to it.

M:I 6 - Mission Impossible

A new M.I. movie?! Oh hell yeah! So far there hasn't been a single bad one in the series. It's not just action: it's action with complexity, big budgets, and a great group of characters gathered over the years. I can't wait.

The Purge: The Island

I just started watching The Purge franchise a few months ago, but so far I'm loving it. It's controversial, it's relevant, it's packed with action and filmed with style... so of course I can't wait to see how this one turns out too.

The title hints at something new, though apparently it's more a prequel than a sequel.

Maybe they're in the process of milking this franchise dry; unwilling to let it all play out and end just yet... but I hope it'll be good anyway. I imagine it might be something like Death Race, in that the event's now (or then - before it all spread like a plague) isolated to a specific area.

Like an island.

Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel have been putting out some pretty amazing movies recently, easily dominating the superhero scene the last few years. Their world just gets continually bigger and better, and though I don't believe it can keep doing so forever they definitely seem to be delivering this year too. I have no doubt this will be just... awesome.

This movie premiered earlier this week so maybe I'll be seeing it soon!

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

The last X-Men movie ended in such a conclusive way I thought it might have been over, but I'm not unhappy I was wrong! As this is another franchise I've yet to be disappointed with any one movie of I am hyped for this one too. It's a Marvel thing too.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Since the second Maze Runner movie in 2015 I've really been looking forward to this one, and this year is the year!

Actually I've already seen it. You can read the review here.

The Missing P Tag

I updated this post recently with... an update. If it's a typo or other minor thing I usually don't mention this, but for notable updates I have an update shortcode I usually use. It shows up like so:

UPD: This is an important update!!!

...usually at the bottom of the updated post in question.

This time, however, the shortcode didn't work. The tags appeared as plain text and everything was appended the impending block of text like an ugly tumor.

I checked the spelling. I copied in the tags from another post where it did work. I pondered if maybe I'd added in a filter that prevented shortcodes from running in the front page specifically... but what was strange was that the prepended line break wasn't showing either.

I deleted the shortcode and tried updating the post with just the text. The line break was still missing.

I copied and pasted via Notepad - to get rid of any potentially erroneous formatting. I added multiple line breaks. I added in new paragraphs. I eventually checked the source code to see if there was something I just couldn't see via the text editor... and it was missing a <p> tag.

For some reason no matter how many line breaks I added after the final line it just wouldn't break, shortcode or no. The p tag (that is otherwise inserted automatically each time you break a line in the WP text editor) just was not there.

Why? I have no idea. I Googled: no result. I finally added in extra </p> and <p> tags where the break was supposed to occur and... that works. For now. If in the future that post starts looking weird again, maybe the missing p tags have finally returned.

Snack Time

Life in space is not all it's hyped up to be. XD

Fistful Of Lead (1970)

Fistful Of Lead (1970)

Alternative title: Sartana's Here... Trade Your Pistol For A Coffin.

They don't do them like they did in the old days! The spaghetti western era may have been corny by measures now unknown to man but... it was pretty cool too. Wiling out in the Wild Wild West was a real art form, and George Hilton wiles out pretty well here. In a calm, stone cold, sunburnt, squinting kind of way.

Props also to Charles Southwood, Erika Blanc and the nameless bandits.

The title's very reminiscent of a Clint Eastwood-classic, and it stars a very Clint Eastwood-like main actor, and it came out just a few years after the former so you can clearly see the inspiration too. It may not be as polished as the one it was inspired by, but I'm glad they gave it a shot as it turned out to be a real gem - not too much like the well-known classic after all.

There's plenty of creative action intertwined with looking handsome, and the laid back pace of the sun-riddled days of the gun-slinging seventies... that is what it's all about isn't it?

And the characters! Wonder where they find all these guys? They're great, yet they never seem to make it into the mainstream movies. But that's what I love about these movies too. The actors never look like actors. They look like the real deal. No mainstream guys, just tough guys.

The setting's a rundown little village too, and it really feels like the era it's meant to mimic. it's not a masterpiece, but thoroughly enjoyable. Creative action, characters with enviable calm, and a little village with a lot of gold.

I'm glad I found this movie! From an unfortunately all too forgotten time.

Going In Style (2017)

Going in Style (2017)

These action comedies about old people robbing banks and making fools out of themselves while they're at it... they're usually pretty depressing.

And so was this one. Though mainly because of the old age theme - not so much because of the foolery. That bit comes in moderate doses. They're definitely old, they definitely have their downs, but in the end... it's handled with style.

And they have all the reasons in the world to get that money! Righteous reasons. At the end you wonder if anyone wasn't at least a little suspicious when they all managed to turn their lives around, keep their houses and half their kidneys and even get a dog? Loose end.

It's not flawless but... it was a good session of fun and depression both. Well-filmed. Well-planed. Michael Caine, Alan Arkin and Morgan Freeman never disappoint either! Michael is the oldest in the group by a few years, and Morgan Freeman the youngest, though they're all over 80 y/o at this point! It's almost like they get better the older they get.

Also: pretty entertaining cameo with Christopher Lloyd! He's actually younger than all the aforementioned three. Age is a funny thing, huh.

This movie might have the oldest cast in a old-guys-rob-a-bank movie yet, and they're still all going strong. Forget depressing - that's pretty inspiring.
