Spies In Disguise (2019)

Spies In Disguise (2019)

Anderson.paak in the intro, Will Smith as the main VA and a story about saving the world with love, special agents and a menace out for vengeance all in the mix, how could it miss?

It doesn't. It might go almost a bit too much as you'd expect it occasionally, but for the most part: pure awesome. Just awesome. It's a blast to watch, and I do love those car chase/crash details in particular, Tetris and all. It's those little things that really raise the bar. When they chase the car.

Feels like they lost some optimal potential for small moments like that towards the end; just made it overall messy and flashed out, but still, it's got something special going on. And pigeons. Can't complain at all.

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome

Marauders (2016)

Marauders (2016)

AKA Raiders (2016)

Big bad boss Bruce Willis... though what a shame about Mims.

It's one of those cops and robbers movies where you don't see it all coming, but you see some of it, and you're ashamed you didn't see the rest when it's all so clear. It ends with a bit of despair and lose ends, and you wonder if it was all pretend or if it was all really there...

I get annoyed with some of the shaky cam, but the action's authentic, the actors are authentic, and the masks are moody too. They built it well. They just don't polish it perfectly, but leave you hanging towards the end. Mediocre action thriller overall, but it could have been awesome.

Cool to see Dave Bautista getting bigger roles too.

Villain (2020)

Villain (2020)

Why do these movies have to be so sad. :/ It's about the villain who can't change his ways. Who has everything stacked against him. Who has a stupid little brother who gets into the drug biz. You know how it goes...

It's well-filmed though. An emotional, but not particularly uplifting tale, and Craig Fairbrass plays - as usual - a convincing villain. An old-timer with still a little bit of evil in his eye. It's hard to get rid of, try as you'd like.

Wonder what happened to the two on the motorcycle though. Was hoping they'd run into a car. Maybe they did.

Psycho Yoga Instructor (2020)

Psycho Yoga Instructor (2020)

Psycho Yoga instructor? More like psycho yoga student. For the most part of the movie, at least.

Expect a lot of bickering, and the constant conflicts of a couple where the husband works all day to support the wife, who is miserable in her loneliness and takes expensive yoga classes, eventually almost cheats on her husband and invokes the wrath of in title aforementioned yoga instructor when she has a change of heart and once again places faith in her man.

You know it's a movie mainly aimed towards a female audience when you don't relate. I sympathize with the husband. Granted he doesn't say everything the right way, but everyone knows the male isn't as endowed with verbal communique as with their more functional material and problem-solving skills, right? Unless they're psychotic yoga teachers.

The movie does feature a good-looking main character, and rich locales, but that's about it. It's long, and though well-filmed just not very eventful until the very end. Filmed with those same old gray tones you expect from this type of movie too, even in the bright of day. Good production, and a script that goes full circle, just not a very wholesome or enjoyable experience after all.

Badlands (2019)

Badlands (2019)

Western ain't dead yet! I was about to say Country. Mixing together musical and movie-based genres hmm, how is my mind...

Religious undertones may be heavy here, but they were a large part of the times too so I shall let those slide.

I appreciate the pace. I appreciate the drawn out conversations - in stark contrasts to those in more mainstream movies - even if not all characters are equally convincing. The bullets fly, the fights feel authentic and the threat's never far away. There are a couple ladies, there's some intrigue, there's a lot of conversation...

It might not have the biggest a bang out of all movies within the genre, nor the grittiest setting, but it feels like a Western done well by modern standards. Not bad, Badlands.
