It's been a couple of years since I posted my last list of sequels I looked forward to, but as a New Year's here and there's quite a few upcoming ones on the horizon I thought I'd revive the habit... at least for this one year.
So here's a few I am really looking forward to. And since sequels are in such surplus these days there's a few more after that at the end.
Keep reading if you want more.
Bad Boys For Life
This one was promised for 2018, but at the time of writing they've apparently postponed it again. After Bad Boys 2 in 2003 - which I still consider one of the best action movies of all time, I have really been looking forward to this one. Bummer it won't be this year, but whichever year is the year it comes out I'm really looking forward to it.
M:I 6 - Mission Impossible
A new M.I. movie?! Oh hell yeah! So far there hasn't been a single bad one in the series. It's not just action: it's action with complexity, big budgets, and a great group of characters gathered over the years. I can't wait.
The Purge: The Island
I just started watching The Purge franchise a few months ago, but so far I'm loving it. It's controversial, it's relevant, it's packed with action and filmed with style... so of course I can't wait to see how this one turns out too.
The title hints at something new, though apparently it's more a prequel than a sequel.
Maybe they're in the process of milking this franchise dry; unwilling to let it all play out and end just yet... but I hope it'll be good anyway. I imagine it might be something like Death Race, in that the event's now (or then - before it all spread like a plague) isolated to a specific area.
Like an island.
Avengers: Infinity War
Marvel have been putting out some pretty amazing movies recently, easily dominating the superhero scene the last few years. Their world just gets continually bigger and better, and though I don't believe it can keep doing so forever they definitely seem to be delivering this year too. I have no doubt this will be just... awesome.
This movie premiered earlier this week so maybe I'll be seeing it soon!
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
The last X-Men movie ended in such a conclusive way I thought it might have been over, but I'm not unhappy I was wrong! As this is another franchise I've yet to be disappointed with any one movie of I am hyped for this one too. It's a Marvel thing too.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Since the second Maze Runner movie in 2015 I've really been looking forward to this one, and this year is the year!
Actually I've already seen it. You can read the review here.
Deadpool 2
Deadpool, the anti-hero of heroes: he's back!
I've seen the trailers at the cinema a few times now, and though I can't say he's my favorite movie character I do appreciate his refreshingly uncensored approach.
You never know what you'll get with Deadpool, but you do know it's bound to be a lot of fun, and a lot of action. Possibly also unexpectedly much emotion - like there was in the last one. Reynolds: It's all on you.
It's another Marvel movie, so I'm expecting great things!
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Another Marvel movie? What can I say: I'm hyped. I loved Ant-Man, so I'm looking forward to this one too. The Wasp had a small cameo in that one too if I recall...
Johnny English 3
The previous two were a blast, yet since it's been seven years since the last one I'm wondering how this will turn out. I'm excited though. I don't think I've seen Rowan Atkinson in a movie since then either, and I'm missing his particular strain of humor. He may be older, but he's not too old to be good quite yet!
I mean he's still at least twenty years younger than those guys in Going In Style. Was about to say thirty, but I checked... he is growing old.
Ocean's 8
Danny Ocean's sister (played by Sandra Bullock), is gathering together a team for one big heist! I don't expect it will live up to the original Ocean's 11 at all, but the prospect of an all-female heist cast seems enticing.
I'm hoping it'll be way better than The Mercenaries were to The Expendables, and better than the somewhat disappointing Ghostbusters reboot.
Pacific Rim: Uprising
Big human-driven Gundam-like robots waging a war against an alien race?! Hell yeah! I liked the original, so I've been looking forward to this one too... and so I watched it last week. You can check the review here.
The Predator
Last but not least there's a Predator remake in the making! I know this isn't officially a sequel, but it deserves a mention right? I've mentioned remakes as well as sequels in the past too. I have no idea - and no expectations - as to how this will match up the original, but I am looking forward to seeing it.
The first one was iconic, and who knows: maybe some of the oldies might reprise their roles! Like that Schwarzenegger dude.
There's also apparently a Goosebumps sequel in the making! Gotta see that, though I've yet to see the first one. Also notable: Ralph Breaks The Internet (Wreck-It Ralph 2), Creed 2, The Equalizer 2, Incredibles 2, Halloween (they're starting it over again, again) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Considering how the last Jurassic movie went I'm not all that hyped about this one, but it should be fun to watch either way.
Of course there's more, like sequels for Paddington and Fifty Shades, but I haven't seen the first installments of those yet and I'm not sure I will. Fantastic Beasts, however... reading up on reviews for that franchise it might be a sequel I need to see. If I'd seen the first one already I think it could have been high on the list above.
There's also Dabangg 3 (quality Bollywood action) and Taxi 5 (a long-running - for some time until now abandoned - awesome French car-movie franchise a la Luc Besson) on route - the latter of which I'm hyped to see! Also a Tomb Raider reboot I have seen (you can find that review here).
I probably would have included those in the main list if I didn't find out about them last-minute before posting this. Or actually: hid-away in a text file where I'd noted them in preparation for this particular post, a few weeks ago, and then forgotten all about...
Overall there's a lot of sequels! As seems to be the trend these days. Let's see how many of them we can actually see, how many meet our expectations, how many actually come out this year - as announced, and how many of them merit further sequels in the future!
For the Bad Boy franchise in particular I wouldn't mind another three... or nine... or any number really. Either way it seems to be another great year for movies - Bad Boys or no.

Keeping the world since 2004.
RE: Bad Boys 3: Not sure about that, I think the gap has been too long to reuse the same characters. Will Smith has still got it but Martin Lawrence is like 20 years older than him, physically; even if he was born four years before Will Smith.
RE: Mission Impossible VI: Sure, Tom Cruise can still pull off a good action spy flick. Not particularly anticipating this one, but I think the series has surpassed James Bond at this point...
RE: The Purge. Meh, saw the first one. It was just a generic thriller with forced shock value. Maybe's gotten better, but don't see how they can drag out or reuse the idea any further.
RE: Avengers, X-Men, Deadpool, Ant-man: really not a fan of Marvel/DC Hollywood for the masses film...but I hear that Deadpool has a different quality. Get Christopher Nolan to direct and I'll probably change my stance...
RE: Maze Runner 2: Still have to see the first one. Looks pretty cool, but I hear it has a similar feel to the Divergent and Hunger Games franchises. If so, I expect wonderous worlds and interesting premise, and to be disappointed by underdeveloped plots and poor acting.
RE: Johnny English: never heard of it. *looks up Rowan Atkinson*...lol Mr. Bean as James Bond?? can't go wrong with this one...
RE: Predator remake: I thought I'd seen the old, guess I've just seen the Alien and Alien vs Predator series. never knew Arnold Schwarzenegger was part of this world...though I now know that Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, and Jared Leto are, indirectly...
RE: Wreck it Ralph: sounds silly
RE: Creed 2: Stallone really needs to retire.
RE: Equalizer 2: Denzel Washington still has it though, somehow. Oh yeah...still got to check out Equalizer 1.
RE: Pacific Rim 2: Pacific Rim 1 is on my watchlist.
RE: The Incredibles 2: Not my style of movie if you haven't noticed.
RE: Halloween: My standards for horror films are very high.
RE: Jurassic Park Whatever: Rarely does a franchise go further than a trilogy without degrading it's aggregate value.
RE: Fifty Sh*ts of Crap: Seen it, and I can say it is the WORST movie I have ever seen. I give it a 1/5. Everything about it is steaming, hot garbage. Terrible acting, atrociously horribly bad plot with no drama/tension, average music (sad, because Danny Elfman made it), no character development whatsoever, it's just trite and stupid. I would advise you not to put any thought of seeing these films whatsoever. How they manage to keep pumping out sequels is well beyond me. Even the actors themselves admit the movie is pure garbage.
RE: Bad Boys 3: Was just about to say: man I didn't know Martin was that old! XD You may be right, but if there's any chance it might somehow live up to the second one... it's a hope I'm dreaming on. That one was just so great in all ways. Not just with the actors either but with how it was filmed. The car chase in particular: best car chase I have ever seen.
RE: Mission Impossible VI: The new Bond movies are still in a league of their own IMO, but otherwise: do agree! Also seems you're really putting actor age into the equation regarding the potential of these equals huh... there are some really really old guys still making great movies too you know!
RE: The Purge. I really liked the first one too though. The other ones follow a similar formula, even if the circumstances keep changing - and they're not so much tied to just one house. Guess this one might not be for you!
RE: Avengers, X-Men, Deadpool, Ant-man: Seen a lot of the Marvel movies so far? Well Deadpool's a lot more violent but it's pretty similar otherwise. They all have the same 'style' to them, just different characters and amounts of gore. Same balance between comedy and action, emotion, solid special effects... I feel they've figured out a working formula, are at their pinnacle right now, and have been ahead of DC for a while, but views to diff. Have you seen Black Panther though? Doctor Strange? if so: thoughts? Those are definitely two of my all-time favorites of recent years.
RE: Maze Runner 2: Yeah they're all pretty alike. :) I'd say this is the best of the three, but you're right. Don't expect too much if you do see it, though I think the first one was special...
RE: Johnny English: Man you haven't seen the first two?! XD You're missing out (on the topic of age he really is getting old, but I'm expecting great things anyway)!
RE: Predator remake: Hmm in the new one huh... sounds like a good cast! The old one didn't really feel like it WAS part of the same universe, it was one of a kind. Will be interesting to see if the new's anything like it.
RE: Wreck it Ralph: ...but fun, right? ;)
RE: Creed 2: I hope he never retires. Just keeps going till his dying breath! Respect people who are so passionate about what they do they don't settle for the money; just keep going until they can't go no more; doing whatever it is they were made to do. Though yeah, his newer movies... some are a bit depressing with that old-age theme.
RE: Equalizer 2: I haven't seen him in a while I think... for sure. The first wasn't amazing but: good action.
RE: Pacific Rim 2: Cool. :) Expect shallow but also: pretty cool!
RE: The Incredibles 2: Slowly, I think I am hmm... animated for-a-younger-audience movies not your thing? Animated overall? Overly dynamic animation?
RE: Halloween: It Follows, Light's Out, Don't Breathe...? (Not comparing any of those to this one, just curious if they match the standard.)
RE: Jurassic Park Whatever: Yeah I'm not expecting much but... gotta watch it.
RE: Fifty Sh*ts of Crap: That... bad? It had a pretty high score the last time I checked, and I'd only heard good things before this! Maybe I won't get into that franchise after all then. Good knowing.
