In 1999, a retired cop is hired by drug dealers to chase after two psychos who've been dismembering, kidnapping, raping and demanding ransom for a bunch of women. He gets some help from a little black kid named TJ, attends Anonymous Alcoholics meetings and slowly reveals fragments of his pasts to his young 'associate' all the while uncovering more about the sinister duo running rampant.
Liam Neeson (I thought that was Nelson) plays Matt Scudder, a bunrt out cop, who doesn't have a PI license, but is doing the police's job anyway. It's a gritty movie, with a soundtrack and a style of filming that actually takes me back to the time when the movie supposedly takes place. It feels like a batch of nostalgia all the while easily standing on its own two feet as one of the best filmed, most impactive detective thrillers of the year. Great watch.
