American Graffiti (1973)

What a feelgood movie this was.

I expected to be bored by it, but if you like flashy cars and old rock and roll music (that'd be rockability now) you'll probably enjoy just seeing these old beasts cruise through the street, and hearing the tunes, being fascinating by the jargon of the times and all the boss people that charter the streets of that sleepy little town I'm not sure we ever learn the name of...

This was like a meditation session. Not much happened, but it was a fun night, and I'm left here looking at the sun rise with peace of mind, wishing we could go back to the old days when everything was a little simpler, and enjoy things as they were back then...

Charming characters too. Especially appreciate Terry (Charles Martin Smith) and the girl, and of course macho man John (Paul Le Mat).

But who's not to like?!

The only thing that feels a little misplaced here is the 'after the story x happened to x' bits at the end, with events dating back fifteen years before this movie was even made, and not all so positive... feels like that bit was just plain unnecessary.

But if you want to wind down though and go back to a time when everything felt a little more grounded, simple, and overall just enjoyable - emotional turmoil or no, you might enjoy this. It holds up surprisingly well.

Early Harrison Ford cameo here too! Before he always played the main guy? Didn't realize it until I read the credits.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle
