At the start of the movie, I really wasn't sure I'd like it. The humor's crude and awkward and by my stereotypes very American. You don't regularly laugh with people, you laugh at them. And thus, I don't laugh. Or maybe it's not that, maybe it's all the awkwardness, all the exaggeration, Ron Burgundy's voice and non-existential humor makes him appear an idiot... but not in a good day. There's potential for so much great humor, but I feel the actors throw it away on acting like idiots and over-explaining their jokes.
Like when they're riding in the van on cruise control, and that one guy tells Ron
cruise control is used to regulate speed, not steer the car... you think the audience would know this already. For me, the moment where Ron mentions it's on cruise control would've been enough, followed by wide-eyes and that inevitable crash, and the awesome tumbling about part, getting hit by bowling balls and what-not - that's highly visual and globally understandable entertainment right there. I guess they're dragging out on the suspense, letting the audience wait for what they know will inevitably happen, but that's still an example of one of the jokes that wasn't half-bad anyway. That's one of the golden moments. That, along with the shark (I thought the dog bit was going overboard) and of course: that final fight.
That final fight is awesome, starring such an abundance of famous actors that it made the whole movie worth the watch after all. If you are, like me, not that much for this type of over-explained and obvious humor, just skip to the fight; the surprise battle of the century! Harrison Ford, Will Smith, Ace Ventura (err I mean Jim Carry) and plenty of other notable celebrities all come together and have a big blast. Literally. There's also that new-nemesis in this movie, but I don't know, I liked the first Anchorman better, this one feels so bloated on stupidity... obese on the obvious. Has my humor changed? I need to check back on the first one again. For what it's worth, this was a good watch, it was entertaining, though it's far far away (like another galaxy) from a favorite.
