Healthcare professionals, government officials and everyday people find themselves in the midst of a pandemic as the CDC works to find a cure.
Found out there's a movie about a pandemic that predates the current one by just about exactly a decade. Watched it with a buddy a while back, and it hit unexpectedly close to home. Had to watch some Mr. Bean right after to get our moods recalibrated.
It's eerily prophetic, depressingly serious, but appreciatively humane, too. With a surprising number of famous faces, like Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and last but not least Laurence Fishburne!
How had I never even heard of this movie before?!
The way big pharma gets portrayed as the savior though: I wish it wasn't so. I wish the one blogger at odds with the system wasn't one who actually profited, and endangered people by opportunity. I wish he was good.
It goes overboard a bit with that, with people naming him a prophet no less, yet it's scary how in the real world things can just as easily be cult-like in other ways. As they have been. With a faith in the name of state. Or commerce.
We follow our leaders like a flock of sheep. We eat and sleep and feed. On media. And believe whatever's relevant to our creed and allegiance of. Keep on breathing like we're heedless dogs, following our neon Gods...
Anyway this was a great movie. Just maybe watch it some other time. When the world's better, and you can't see this as a darker reflection of our current ways, and the ominous future that potentially yet looms ahead.
