Here's a rather odd movie, featuring Clint Eastwoood, a monkey (baboon?), his friend, his friend's girlfriend, a biker gang, a couple of fake cops, a girl who's run away, and a grand adventure! The one thing that strikes me most when watching this movie is how beautiful everything was back in the seventies, the skies were blue, the water was clean, the grass was green.. it's like the whole world was an oasis.
Of course that's what they show us, but it doesn't make the fact lesser that normal movies don't usually compare in terms of scenery. All the paradise we see in modern movies is man-made, it's either sleek beaches or cityscapes, or forest canopies from the distance, or mown patches of grass by a cottage in the woods. There's never a patch of tall grass and a few dandelions growing amongst a group of ungroomed trees. It's never wild.
So anyway, there was wildlife, there were fights, fun, drama, tragedy... and at the end of it all it's all a comedy. It's a light-hearted film with a few serious elements, and the camera angles are experimental, some traditional, some shaky-cam, some interesting objectives and close-ups. The sound effects for the fights are as exaggerated as they were in most movies of the time, but apart from many other movies of the time they do manage to capture the intensity of the fights, in a grittily realistic fashion... to a certain extent. It's not something you'd watch just for the action, but it was a fun movie!
