With the Fifth movie they got back on track! They escape! They go to Rio! The Rock gets involved and chases them down and they all have some pretty bad-ass fights and falls through tin rooftops... that my cousin keeps telling me were made out of wood. I'm telling you man, they're not wood, that's sheet metal or plastic, and it's staged. But anyway...
The views in this movie are incredible. They're as incredible as the cars. And the cars are as incredible as their stunts. And the stunts are incredible! I watched this movie at the cinema, so that may have given me an even greater impression of all these things, but all I know is: I enjoyed it. I thought the plot was clever, I thought the action was intense and fluid (especially compared to the last one) and I don't mind that they have a lot of weaponry involved all of a sudden, because at this point it feels like it's merited.
The group's all gathered together here, characters from the past along with new, and they all plan one big Heist. In a way it's a bit like The Bank Job or Ocean's 11, and not as much about the road as it's been in earlier editions of this franchise, but I don't mind. I liked Ocean's 11 too, and I don't mind them mixing together these two concepts and making something if not twice as great, then at least as good as it was previously. I don't think the change is for the worse, I think it's for the... interesting. The movie passes by fast when I watch it, intense and fueled by plot and character as much as high-octane madness. Nice.
