Truman Show + Groundhog Day + Ready Player One + GTA? Pretty much!
I can't wait to see it. Should've been out last December but: May 21 now.
That's the plan.

did you watch it?
it was pretty good, a little bit too "normie" for me, would have preferred if they toned down the comedic elements and made it more of a drama/psychological thriller.
The comparisons I thought of was Thirteenth Floor + Replacement Bureau + Edge of Tomorrow + Her + Truman Show
Yeah I did, just recently. :) Gotta get some reviews up soon.
I felt similarly. I liked it, but in the end was a little disappointed they didn't somehow bridge the gap between the real and the digital. Turn it into a new kind of 'Matrix' somehow. Go deeper. Felt like a bit of a superficial end to what could've gone so much further. They had that scene by the ocean that reminded me of The Thirteenth Floor too...
Agree with the comedy too. Guess that might've been why they took the route they did. Potential mismatch of premise and performance. Suppose they might never have intended to make it darker anyway, but it would've been interesting. Was expecting a liiiitle more Deadpool-like desperation at least. Surprisingly light-hearted most of the time, even with the more serious moments. There's never any real perceptible sense of fear and finality, until the bridge, maybe. But they still keep going with the jokes then.
Mmm, now that I've seen it that definitely works! Seemed like it'd be more Ready Player One and GTA from the trailer. Edge of Tomorrow more than Groundhog Day? More sci-fi/action setting? And it did have that girl element too hmm...
Don't think I've seen Her yet.
