Harry Potter 3 - The Prisoner Of Azkaban (2004)

Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their third year of study, where they delve into the mystery surrounding an escaped prisoner who poses a dangerous threat to the young wizard.

These really get better and better. Special effects better and better. Filming. Intensity. Character acting. Everything.

Hedwig's a clear presence too - maybe more so with this movie than any of the others, an actual owl, and the sceneries seem ditto. It seems so detailed suddenly. So atmospheric. And so dark, when it needs to be.

It looks great. It feels great. And it has a hefty dose of magic.

Fortuna Major btw - was that Adele???

This was definitely the best one yet, though the plain has really turned into a hillside now, and it seems like the Hogwarts castle might be a new one - or they just change how they portray it/from which angles.

The new one is all the more mysterious, and authentic, but also all the more different. Sometimes it seems old and abandoned more so than an active school, with no other characters but the main trio around, and no real grounds outside the walls that seem inhabited by people.

I also feel like it ended all too suddenly this time, as if this was the first segment where it was more an episode than a full film.

Wonder if this was the point they decided for real to turn it into a whole series; it'd make sense if the distinction's due to that.

The soundtrack seems to changed a lot with this one too, but for the better entirely. Feels like they found their style. It's a lot more ominous, but atmospheric too. Not the typical witch/magic/comedy kinda sound but more so a mysterious, ancient but new; bridging both worlds and generations kind of sound...

Was planning to give this one a full five but unfortunately the ending took away a bit of it for me. It's still not all the way there.

 rated 4.5/5: almost awesome
