Doggy paddling to fitness
An overweight rottweiler is half the dog he used to be after losing more than six stone – by doggy paddling.
Shamrock tipped the scales at 15st 10lbs by munching his way through 10kg of dog food a week, reports the Daily Mail.
And on top of his three tins of food a day, he would snack on fatty treats such as chips, cakes, chocolate and cheese.
But now, eight months on, the six-year-old pedigree weighs just 9st 6lb – after swimming his way to fitness in the family pool.
Mandy Moore and her husband Alan, 47, a goldsmith, managed to tempt him into the 26ft indoor pool because he was too fat to go for walks.
At first he could barely manage a width but, with help from the couple’s four children, Shamrock took to the water and now swims five lengths a day at their home in Plymouth, Devon.
Housewife Mandy, 46, said: “We knew he had to lose weight so we put him on a diet – he was like a canine dustbin.
“My husband suggested we try putting him in the pool. At first he just floated around but soon he was like a duck to water. Now we can’t keep him out of there.”
