A drunk student has been arrested after cycling two miles the wrong way down the fast lane of an Italian motorway.

The 22-year-old Spanish student was pulled over by traffic cops on a section of the Autostrada del Sole, near Parma.

The student, who police said was found to be more than four times over the legal drink driving limit, said he had no recollection of how he came to be there.

A police spokesman said: “He had a few near misses but we managed to get him off the motorway before there was a disaster.”

The student has been charged with breaking road safety laws.
