Grapes of wrath
Russell Brand phoned a supermarket live on stage – for suspending a disabled trolley pusher for eating six grapes.
Brand mocked the employment policy of Ralph Brombley’s employers, supermarket giants Waitrose, reports the Mirror.
He called the store in Twyford, Berks, during a gig at nearby Reading and spoke to an employee.
Brand asked if they would have the 56-year-old back and pay some of his wages in grapes so he didn’t have to eat them.
And he joked that the John Lewis company said it was OK for workers to eat one, two, three, four or five grapes, but drew the line at six.
Ralph, who has learning difficulties and is blind in one eye, found the grapes in a trolley and ate them so they didn’t get squashed. But he was suspended when he was seen by one of his managers.
A spokesman for Waitrose said: “We have agreed to explore ways to resolve the matter amicably on confidential terms.”
