Musicalish #26

Time for some musical nostalgia! I decided to dig up some of the records I've listened the most to during my years growing up, or ones that left me with a lasting impression. The years I remember the most are my teenage years, so these lists will be dominated by nu-metal and hiphop, not so much of the more poppy melodies I remember (yet impossibly recall the names of) hearing as a kid. I hadn't seen the videos for all of these, so it was a fun batch to look up and look through! A buncha nostalgia... though maybe a rather monotone line-up. Too many videos for one post so I'ma post a few of these in a row! But let's start with...

Limp Bizkit - My Generation . I remember getting this album for Christmas... from my parents! I don't think they ever actually listened to the content or I doubt I'd ever gotten it, but for me this was the peak of their career, an album where every single song was packed with both tons of lyrical content, catchy melodies and flow, not to mention political messages and emotion. And the fact that the first track probably set a record for the amount of Fucks ever included in one song didn't make it any worse! Chocolate Covered Hot Dog was great.

Limp Bizkit - Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)

Limp Bizkit - Boiler

Limp Bizkit - Re-Arranged. The second place on my list of favorite Limp Bizkit albums is definitely Significant Other. It was the third album of their that I got - back in the days where each CD was something special! The first one was their first: Three Dollar Bill Yall, one I'll always admire for the twisted lyrical formulas and structures, but honestly not one I prefer listening to over and over again when I have a choice.

Linkin Park - In The End. I performed this one in high school myself, with dyed green hair and a tennis racket... and a buddy. I remember listening to Hybrid Theory for the first time, on a pirate tape on my brand new booming blue bass boombox... it blew my mind back then, and opened my eyes for an entirely new repertoire of great bands and artists! Though Linkin Park was entirely new back then, with a musical style no one else could emulate.

Linkin Park - Crawling. Another Hybrid Theory classic. Papercut was another one I remember listening to a lot. Though the one that starts with "There's a place so dark you can't see the end..." became a definite favorite soon after.

Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong . The next album was just as awesome! Since then they've evolved and changed, and though I love all their music, the new ones will never have the same impact on me as these ones did.

Rammstein - Du Hast . Back in 1999, this one was on the TV all the time. I bought the record down at the corner store, ceremoniously tore off the plastic and kept it on loop for days and days. It was pretty much the first metal band I was introduced to... if you can call it metal.

Korn - Freak on a Leash. Korn was another band I was introduced to back in 1999, and this a track from the second of three great records I bought that year.

Kid Rock - Bawitdaba. Here's the last one! I hadn't heard of Kid Rock either, but this year was for me a real revelation of new artists, and it was a great time for the music world as a whole! Looking back at Woodstock concerts from 99 on YT, it's an era I wish I'd lived in when I was a little bit older.

Eminem - Cleanin' Out My Closet. The first Eminem track I ever heard was probably My Name Is, but this is the one I remember the strongest. It's a strong song.

Sugar Ray - RPM. I remember running through a mall and seeing this album on a shelf as if it had a golden aura radiating around it. My buddy Jason complimented me on buying it (he was the one who introduced me to most of the stuff I listened to back then, stuff I'd probably never have heard of otherwise), but recommended I get the Lemonade & Brownies album instead. Probably because there was a naked chick on the cover. Musically, this one was way better though.

I still consider a lot of the albums I grew up listening to as some of the best ones I've listened to. Maybe that's the nostalgia playing, maybe the music really was better back then! More coming up...

Yo man there is a typo on the linking park description it should read "Devolved".

I never got to understand Kid completely, he goes from rap to hip hop and then to country then back to hip hop, then more country then rock, he is great but country is still country even if it comes from him XD.

Hah! XD Evolution's a subjective thing man! Who am I to judge?

Yeaah, I'm not much for country either! Seems like I happened to stumble upon him at the time when he was more Rock than anything else though. Been listening through most of his others albums too, but nothing really comes close to Devil Without A Cause! Them times... Woodstock '99 btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMmX1RYpBTI

You are a fan of Numetal, genre abandoned by the band, that's more than enough reason.

Ahh, right. As one who's stayed tuned throughout an entire decade I guess I do have that right! It'd be a very biased one though if I voice it. :P
