Have you ever realized how it's almost impossible to write with a pen at a certain temperature?
I guess it's not so strange considering ink is a liquid, and any types of liquids freeze during variantly low degrees... but when it starts getting sluggish at no less than 15C °C there's got to be something wrong with it. On hot summer days I never have a problem though, pens are always warm and the ink fluid fluent as never before... maybe I should move to some warm exotic country so I never have this issue again?
I did some research on the matter, and it turns out that freezing is an issue with not just pens, but all forms of ink, even printers. There's a specific breed of 'thermal printers' that don't require higher operating temperatures than around 5C, but regular printers need a minimum of 10C! Our house doesn't seem like the ideal environment.
As for pens, research tells me that pen ink doesn't supposedly freeze until around -47.8 °C... woah, according to these statistics there should be no risk for problems with my pen! But, maybe this is the freezing point for pure ink, and regular pens contain a more chemical formula, or a combined form of ink and other liquid to make the products cheaper. I read about an interviewer having had to switch to a regular pencil when his pen froze in the middle of an outdoors interview though, at much less than -47.8 °C so it looks like the issue may be pretty common after all.
How often do your pens freeze?

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
