Race 2 (2013)

I watched this movie just before I went to bed, and since I woke up with a memorable dream in mind it seems I also remembered a good portion of this movie. In my half-dormant state, scenes from the movie flashed through my mind, and it's like I was analyzing all the pros and cons in my sleep. You know how they say you should sleep on it? It's applicable to everything! :)

For the most part, I liked this movie, I liked the characters, I liked the plot, I liked the abundance of action and I especially liked clever scenes like the escape after the robbery, or the parkour chase, or disarming the bomb in high-traffic... but then there were those parts I didn't like, like the final jump in the parkour chase, or the Lamborghini explosion, or the boat chase, all because they were so obviously fake. Some special effects mix in nicely, but some of them are just too noticeable, and it really decreases the viewing quality.

I guess an imbalance in movie consistency is to expect with a Bollywood movie (or is just this one giving me bad impressions?) but without those... it would've been perfect. And lets not forget the car driving out of the plane just before it crashes into a mountain wall, it's about as realistic as... well the scene is even less realistic than the actual scenario! Take that! Pun on bad boy band name. It's like the disappointment when a ravishing review turns to rambling... see?

There was one great dance scene, where the characters morphed into each other, were dressed up as monsters and demons and the groove they moved to was fluid in tune too, but the rest... they were way too modern. None of them the same fluency I'm used to with Bollywood dance, sensual sure, but that's it, it wasn't catchy, it wasn't masterfully staged. Plotwise it was well worth a watch, and there's plenty of good action. It's like a bit of Redline and Kanji The Gambler mixed together with some Once A Thief... a great adventure, with twists; with promises of a sequel... just not as great as it could be.
