Holmes is back! Together with Watson he's ready to tackle the most meticulously morbid of criminals and crooks, the candid genius entirely without empathy: professor Moriarty (played by Jared Harris). Soon after the last one ends, this continues, and turns to a clever cat and mouse game that goes a step further than the local locales - as it were in the old movie, changing pace and place and scenery, and tying in a few new relations along the way.
There's some comedy, plenty of suspense, and a very interesting slow-mo chase unlike any I've seen before. It has a Go Pro feel to it, everything in motion, fast and fiery and full of explosive background noise. An experience almost outside the movie.
Apart from the one chase, there's a fiery train ride and a break-in to a military camp/factory, along with a couple of other more or less successful attempts at preventing certain assassinations.
It starts a bit unexpectedly, with what I thought would be one of the main characters (we know her from the previous movie) killed. Just like that. Even if she's quickly replaced. And it ends in similar fashion, though with a clever twist. The End? Is it? We know it's not for Holmes... but what about Moriarty? It's a shadow game, and maybe... the game's not over. A clever watch in oldskool milieu.
Apparently there's plans for a third one; whenever that may be, I am looking forward to it!
