The last Star Trek movie before the reboot. I thought I'd give it a watch and see how things were back then, and it turns out they weren't bad at all! It's not near as fast-paced as the new, but there was more suspense than I expected. It's a decade older, so special effects and props are ditto, but it's elaborate enough to be exciting even if it doesn't always feel authentic. Some of the alien races in particular look very much like humans in costumes, which I guess is part of the reason for the switch-up from new to old, and why some members of the crew differ in the new one too.
Jean Luc Picard was a charming captain though; everyone on the team had their own distinct personality... even Data. He seems like a replacement for Spock - whom I was surprised not to see here, but I guess a lot happened in the old Star Trek universe that I don't know of.
I guess it'd be better to start from the beginning, and trek on through the sequels. This feels like a cast I can grow to like, and if they're any similar to this one as far as action and intrigue goes, they're definitely worth a watch!
And hey, Tom Hardy plays a role here too! As a one-time villain, and not always the most vicious and convincing, but he plays a role nonetheless! Always fun to see faces you know in new places. Good watch.
rated 3/5: not bad

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
