Legendary rock band Foo Fighters move into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated 10th album.
I've been looking forward to this one!
It turned into one bad-ass horror movie. With elaborately crazy props, Whitney Cummings, atmospheric and sinister sceneries and the most metal music you can think of. Surefire.
Though I must admit I was expecting a bit more from the trailer, and more of the soundtrack. They pretty much captured it all with that trailer, and the soundtrack's one song. Although it's one looong song.
They pay homage to the classics. They do the props and gore right - sometimes when you least expect those macabre moments and sometimes exactly when you do. The band members may not be the greatest actors, but that doesn't feel like a detriment with this particular movie. They are who they are here. They play their roles as the characters they really are, and that just makes the movie even better for me.
It's a trip all the way. And Grohl is great, as always. Even if he just is himself.
And that chainsaw scene with Whitney Cummings? I love her overly optimistic and expressive role here too, and she looks great.
Wonder how big a fan she is of the Foo. Or vice versa. Wonder how her playing this particular part first came to be here.
The John Carpenter and Lionel Richie cameos too. Epic. Love 'em.
Would love to see more low budget movies like this again. With a cast you know. The element of familiarity and fandom just make everything else so much better, and how they both parody themselves and their craft, all the while working towards a pretty kick-ass, killer thriller.
But what a time for Taylor Hawkins to die, right after this movie comes out...
Macabre timing, but awesome movie.
rated 4.5/5: almost awesome
