Grindhouse: Planet Terror (2008)

A friggin masterpiece. Great actors, great action, great plot, great colors, great filming, great music, everything is just perfect. Need I say more? Go watch it.

 rated 5/5: friggin awesome

Transformers (2007)

There is this cube. Nobody knows where it comes from, all they know is that it was the object used to fill the world with life. For a moment everyone lived in peace, but like all powerful items some wanted it for evil, some wanted it for good, and thus the war began. Then the cube was lost, and where did it land? Earth.

Movie starts nicely with a digitally animated object floating around while a deep voice tells us this story. Then the action starts. It's the story of a boy, a girl, and two alien forces struggling over control. I wasn't expecting much when I watched this movie. Basically everyone I know has been telling me that it's just full of crap, but I haven't seen anything transformer-related before this, except for toy figures in the stores. I guess that lets me build a different standalone perspective, not taking into consideration any of the previous episodes or movies that have been made, if there have been any made, I have no idea. It's by far the best digitally animated film I've seen. The storyline is a unique one, the heroes are heroic, the villains are bad, the boundaries are clear, and everything goes as it's expected to. Real film and digitally animated monsters blend in perfectly. The angles of filming are great, the camera changes are great, everything just looks perfect.

Lots of action, lots of variation, great music and characters with clearly defined personalities. The transformations and modern technologies displayed in the movie look pretty amazing, and the details even in the most chaotic atmospheres are fantastic. Even with the robots flying through office buildings you see the people running around inside, moving realistically, running for cover. Explosions are well-made, everything sounds realistic, everything looks realistic. It's a alternative vision of this world. The storyline is fast-paced, filled with both comedy, action, drama and romance. Everything looks flawless. I don't want to hype this up too much or you'll be disappointed if you watch it yourself, so let me just conclude the summary here. If you haven't seen it already, I recommend it, weather you have seen previous related series or not.

The Box (2008)

Yet another detective drama. It all starts with police bursting into an apartment, bodies strewn on the ground, guns, blood, uncertain circumstances. After that, ninety percent of the movie is staged in the questioning room, where two suspects are being questioned. One of them seems like a nice person, the other seems like your typical criminal, dishonest and weak.

As they are being interrogated they get flashbacks to what happened earlier, the same events play again and again with different sequences of events. But everything isn't as easy as it seems, the plot thickens, more secrets unravel and the end invites you to a nice surprise. Starts off pretty boring, but after a while the suspense increases and you start understanding that it's not as easy as it seems. Good actors, good filming and a nice play with different colors in certain events. Great movie! If you haven't seen it, I recommend you do so.

Batch no10!

Rocky 4 (1985)

Rocky goes to Russia, this time to meet his toughest opponent yet. As usual there's a great deal of fighting, but in difference from previous movies this time it's mixed with a sense of revenge and patriotism. Russia is certified villain and America the hero, with stereotypical characters and characteristics for both the countries. That's an aspect I don't like about this movie, but other than that, it's filled with nice fights and good filming. Worth watching if you've seen the previous three in the series.

Rocky 5 (1990)

Rocky can't fight. Movie four gave him more than the best fight of his life, it gave him brain damage, and he now risks dying if he steps into the ring again. This time it's not about him, it's about his son, among other things. Of course we get some Rocky action as well, a showdown at the very end, but since Rocky 1 things have basically been heading downhill in this series. They say the 6th movie isn't worth watching, and having seen the first 5 I agree.

It hasn't been getting better and better, it's been getting worse and worse. Somehow the movie reminds me of the Godfather, in the essence in which it just follows the life of an uncommon person, from start to end, and all the twists in between, the ones that connect this uncommon person with common people. Again, if you've seen the previous ones, I recommend this one as well.

The Scorpion King (2002)

The Rock is here, in yet another epic movie starring him, his loyal camel, his untrusted servant, his future bride and the seemingly perfect but apparently overconfident villain. Also featuring a bunch of soldiers and victims. It's a great movie, the Rock plays his role perfectly as always, and so do the other characters. The scenery is beautiful, the storyline is simple and the events are varied and easy to follow. Simple, adventurous, happy. It's a movie I recommend.

Batch no9!

Hostel (2005)

Three fellow guys in search for pleasure roam around the world looking for paradise. They get a tip for the perfect place by a newly found friend they thought they could trust, but it doesn't turn out as they expected it, and they shouldn't have trusted their friend, not at all. One after another they disappear, their friends disappear and they uncover hidden, horrible truths. It's a good movie. Brutal, disgusting, bloody, but with good actors, a good story and good filming. It's not your typical Hollywood movie. No happy endings, no expected twists. It's not very scary, but it's intense and disgusting. If you don't have anything against bloodbaths, it's worth a watch.

Hostel Part Two (2007)

It's not over yet. The hostel is still there, the organization still exists, hiding in the shadows. This time it isn't three guys in search for the perfect place, it's three girls. Bloodier, more twisted, and with a little insight in the organization behind the whole thing. If you liked the first part you'll like this one as well. Well-filmed and with a blood-filled storyline. Will there be a part 3? I suppose so, until then.

Rocky 3 (1982)

The Italian Stallion meets Mr T in a brutal showdown, in my opinion the best match so far. Two great actors, more than two great actions, and another nice twist to Rocky's already chaotic career. How they manage to make new spin-offs featuring basically just one simple match in each and still make the movies worth watching baffles me. Another job well done!

Batch no.8 :)

Secret Window (2004)

Yet another one of Steven Kings many masterpieces made it the movies! Johnny Deep plays the role of a writer. A crazy writer, only he doesn't know it until the very end (woops, looks like I spoiled it for ya). Great story, twisted, with great acting, great filming and a lot of suspense. It's not filled with action, but it'll keep you glued to the screen. I recommend it, highly.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle

The Hunted (2003)

A soldier went too far, was too consumed by battle, and has lost all respect for all other respectless humans. Therefore he hides in the forest hunting hunters. Not only that, but he's a highly skilled combatant, trained to survive easily in the wilderness. There's only one man who can stop him, the man who trained him, and who now works as a tracker deep in the snow filled forests atop mount doom. And so the long human hunt starts. Great movie.

Enough (2002)

Jennifer Lopez plays the role of a waitress, who finds the seemingly perfect match, gets a beautiful daughter, and lives happily ever after. But that's just the start of it, it turns out that there is a lot of imperfection hiding below the surface. Her husband craves control, isn't satisfied unless he gets all he can, and does everything he can to keep her within his grasp. A seemingly romantic movie that eventually turns into thriller. Great plot, great filming, great acting.

The seventh addition :P

Eagle VS Shark (2007)

I didn't like it, not at all. The comedy is lame, the main characters are slow/stupid and the plot is just weird. Weird as in a shallow and pointless, not abstract and creative. The intro is nice, and gives decent expectations, but after that it's just filled with crap, nothing interesting, nothing dramatic, nothing well-filmed. The actors do their job good, but it's just not an interesting movie at all.

 rated 1/5: shit shit shit

Coming To America (1998)

Q - So what happens when an isolated rich prince defies his dads plans on arranged marriage and heads over to New York to find a queen of his own?

A - He gets a job at Mc Dowells, as a janitor, and loses millions of dollars just in a few days.

Anyhow, it's a good movie. Eddie Murphy does a good job at playing the Prince, and the plot is dramatical, romantical and comical. The filming is simple, the sceneries are nice, the music is jazzy and it is overall a movie worth watching. It's old though, so be warned, it is a bit slower than modern pieces of film.

 rated 3/5: not bad

Vampire In Brooklyn (1995)

Another great movie with Eddie Murphey as the main character. It's a tale of Romance, Drama and Comedy. Very similar to the above review indeed, a classic character in a new location. Lots of comedy in this one too, and I think the preacher in this and the movie above are both the same. Great movie. If you like the above, you'll like this one, or vice versa.

Reviews for a few movies I watched years ago :P

Coronado (2003)

If you like to see great movie plots destroyed, then I highly recommend this one. It is by far the best example you'll ever find. The special effects are good, probably had a lot of money spent on them - but the actors suck, the filming sucks, everything suck. Plot is about a revolution, and it would probably have been great if a more competent Director had taken care of the idea, like Tarantino, maybe. I watched this movie a few years ago, and since it was so crappy I supposed that most people wouldn't know anything about it. Now, a few years later I see a review in an old movie magazine, and they actually thought it was good. I don't know what they were thinking. I don't recommend this.

 rated 1/5: shit shit shit

Merchants Of Death (1997)

Action, action and more action. It's a bit too much action even for an action lover like me. The movie is filled with explosions, people flying across the screen, unrealistic gunfire and a shallow plot based on revenge. Need I say more? Not to be too harsh though, it's a good action movie, and if you like action you'll like this one too, but don't watch it if you've already seen a dussin movies with exactly the same plot, it gets a bit old. The uniqueness you might be looking for is definitely not here.

 rated 2/5: decent

Hercules In New York (1970)

Arnold Schwarzenegger's legendary first movie! If I spelled his last name wrong, sorry, it's a name that I will probably never learn to spell. About the movie itself is utter crap. The plot is an interesting one, Hercules (the character Arnold plays) takes a trip to New York in order to have a look around. He doesn't blend in very well and starts the visit chaotically by turning over a taxi, among other small displays of strength.

It would be a good movie if it wasn't for the fact that you don't understand half of what Arnold's saying, he can't act at all, and the movie is slow, so slow. The action isn't very dramatic, there isn't any real emotion in the various events that take place, and it's old. The colors are dull and the filming angles aren't very unique. If you're a big Arnold fan, watch it anyway, unless you don't want to be disappointed.

The reason Arnold is in this movie at all is definitely because of his incredibly muscular mass, which does fit in nicely with him being Hercules and all, but with a different main character it would probably have looked much more professional. I don't recommend this movie, in best case scenarios you'll fall asleep and not have to watch through it.
