The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

The Spider-Man franchise started fresh after the old one hopelessly spiraled out of control, and I like it! The characters are all new, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone instead of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, and they both do a great job. The plot is pretty much the same as the old one, with a few subtle differences. This far in you don't really notice the difference, but as I just read that Peter's first girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, actually gets killed in the comic book version (that never happened in the previous Spider-Man trio) I expect things will turn out quite different this time around.

The movie's got everything the old one had but a somewhat warmer and more considerate atmosphere. It feels like they're putting in work making all the details authentic this time around, and I'm hopeful about the future of the franchise. Good watch!

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

The first one really was something else. Second's better, but this one's where it all starts... again, with Andrew Garfield instead of Tobey Maguire, and with Gwen Stacey instead of Beth. I wish it could've kept going with these movies, but if you didn't know: the reason there was no third 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is basically because Garfield cancelled his appearance at a gala meeting where he'd be announced for the sequel by Kaz Hirai, and Kaz took it personal. Then came the Sony Hack, and plans got changed.

Both the old and new are good in their own ways, but I wish the new one could have come to a close, at least. A third and it would've been perfect; it wouldn't have to end with something more than the sadness of the second. It showed promise. At least this one ended alright.
