In a fantasy world where magic is being superseded by technology, an orphaned teen discovers her destiny to become a dragonslayer.
I'm not sure what to say about this one... it was different. Strange. Like a blend between Harry Potter and something else. Emily's a somewhat un-heroine-like main character - not one to swing the sword easily, but she does have charm, and the hybrid between the modern world and the medieval one is an interesting mix, silly as it sometimes seems.
Sometimes it works wonders, but sometimes it doesn't. The special effects are both amazing and disappointing. The props are surprisingly detailed, but not always realistic. The magic... sometimes it really is magic!
Sometimes it seems like a big budget film, and sometimes all B. Like it can't really decide. And it's the same with the characters and their relations.
I liked bits and pieces, but overall it felt a bit childish and unbalanced. And maybe it is. Maybe it's intended for a younger audience - even if certain parts make me doubt: the dragon losing claws, the people smitten by thunder... do children's movies usually have moments like that?
I wonder what the age rating is... if there is one. And by the way - by the way it ends, either there might be a sequel or: it ends... just right. Overall it's not a bad movie, but some things..
rated 3/5: not bad
