Bruce WIllis. I thought he'd have a minor role the way he appears so briefly in the intro, only to be swapped out by Jason Patric as main character. A main character who seems to be just a regular mechanic at first... but of course since he is a mechanic you should expect there dwells a far more profound profession under his apparently wrinkled and worried facade.
As the movie progresses, we learn he's actually a killer with a tragic past, and as he chases after his missing daughter (with the at first involuntary help of one of her friends) the hype builds up around this character so much that the final showdown becomes a bit of a disappointment. The tale overshadows the reality.
But it is a good movie! Jason Patric is somewhat of an overshadowed actor as well, seeing as he's had chances in hyped-up sequels such as Speed 2, but despite good acting never managed to muster up the same charisma or presence as his predecessors (like Keanu Reeves). Overall it's a gritty and good action/thriller with the typical kidnapped daughter kind of situation. But different. Good watch!
