The Season

I turned and I tossed,
Like burnt on the cross,
It's the season of giving,
Of taking, and loss,

The season of hate,
The season of pain,
The season of lies and deceit,
And of shame...

Christmas is here!
This bliss that we share!
These gifts that we give
Our most vicious of peers!

The season of snow!
Of cold and of homes,
Which people so proudly,
Close for unknowns.

It's the season of need,
The season of grief,
The season of glee
And the season of thievery,

Of treacherous dicievery and silver and glitter,
Of jests and jokes and jostle and jitter,
And just so you know I don't mean to be bitter,
The season I like, but do we need the religion?

This season it treason and sacrifice heeds,
But I find in our bliss we have all that we need, to be freed,
From the overlying torment and trouble, if just for the week.
