The Tournament: a competition for en elite of assassins, where only the final survivor can claim a grand prize of $10,000,000.
On the streets of an 'unsuspecting town' the killers run rampant, and from a private room a group of powerful and rich men keep watch, with the help of hackers and tracker implants in each killer's body. What the killers don't know is that these trackers are also explosive devices - which does give the plot a couple of explosive twists.
One of the killers digs out his device, throws it in a random drink, and so a random stranger (who just so happens to be a priest) unwillingly becomes a part of the play, and 1/2 of the protagonist duo. Along comes a femme fatale killer with a conscience, and things start to get interesting! It's an actionfest with plenty of personality, in style with Assassin's Ball, and Battle Royal.
Scott Adkins is one of the killers too - definitely don't miss that fight! And Sebastien Foucan (the Frenchman who ditched his tracker) does some impressive parkour stunts. Robert Carlyle plays the priest, Kelly Hu the female killer and Ving Rhames the killer of killers - winner of the previous tournament; now back for revenge. It never gets all that emotional, but the suspense is high, as are the stakes! The idea isn't new, but this movie manages to make the most of it. It's pure action, with a little twist. Great watch.
