The Transporter (2002)

Frank opens the package. Rule #3: never open the package!

Suddenly he's involved with the daughter of a people smugglin' crime lord and is trying to save four hundred people in a container all the while the bastards are blowing up his car, his house, and doing their best to blow up him, too.

But he can handle himself. He does his thing: punches some people, shoots some people, oils up, parachutes, catches a plane... and gets the girl in a fading sunset. Of course.

It's one solid action movie starring Jason Statham as the one and only, with plenty of driving, fighting, all the right camera angles and a good dose of hiphop beats in the background. Luc Beson! Any movie he writes is bound to be masterful, and Louis Leterrier does a commendable job directing it, authentic stunts and all.

I love how they capture the sunlight too, and the class of it all. Reflections on the glossy finish of the car, the smooth driving, the suit, the charisma, that formidable Transporter demeanor... nothing really compares.

I feel like Qi Shu might not have been the perfect match, and the initial scenes almost seem aimed at one of the Taxi movies, but overall there's barely a bad thing to say about this movie. Statham brings his own style as well, and makes the Transporter all that it is. Awesome.

 rated 4/5: fo shizzle
