A punk band before punk was punk, by three black guys in the hood, forgotten, and rediscovered 35 years later... and now there's a tribute band with their sons!
This is a pretty cool story, and it's free to watch on YT here. Though I discovered after watching this that they may not be the true originators after all. Check out Blast, 1972. Maybe they're the oldest?
Maybe the more you keep digging the further back in time you'll get though, and realize that Punk's been around in one form or another since way before they could even record their music... but either way this was a solid documentary, and A Band Called Death seemed a solid band.
Imagine if they've made it mainstream now. I wonder if things would've been different. Wonder if the genre would've blown up earlier, or later, or not at all, and how it would've influenced the acts that came later on; the ones that are more well-known today...
Some say that sometimes the time is just right for a certain innovation, and that'd apply to musical genres too. The style ought be a reflection of the time; of the culture and norm and whatever other influences we're exposed to at a particular point, so if it's lost on one musician surely there'll come another. It's like the universe is just handing out ideas; channeling energy and inspiration via whichever sources are most open to affluence thereof. It's a fascinating thing to ponder at least.
And did I mention this is a solid documentary? Good watch.
rated 4.5/5: almost awesome

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
