What happens when a couple of hillbillies save the life of a girl after she hits her head and falls into the lake, but her collage friends only see her being dragged into their boat and taken away? What happens is a whole series of unfortunate misunderstandings and events in one of the most hilarious movies I've seen in a long time. It's brutal and violent, but also gut-wrenchingly laughable. The scene where Tucker accidentally saws a wasp nest in half and runs off with his chainsaw tearing above his head is a definite favorite, though it ends in such a bizarre way it quickly choked my laughter.
It's a lot like that with this movie. You're not sure when you should be laughing or where you should be showing sympathy towards the 'evil dead' that are really, apart from that one dude, not bad people after all. They're all just unnecessary sacrifices in one brutal misunderstanding, a real tragedy, a terribly sad story, but don't mind that synopsis, unless you have a hard time stomaching general violence you'll be laughing your ass off from step one to the top of the staircase, and all the way tumbling down! Great watch.
rated 5/5: friggin awesome
If ever a movie truly managed to combine the so very clashing genres comedy and horror in a flawless way (Human Centipede 3 definitely didn't), then this is might be it! There is blood and yet... it's so harmless, naive, with plot and comedy heavily leaning upon stereotypes, yet a main character with no prejudice leading it just the right way.
And it's not your typical movie from either one of those two genres either. It's like a successful mutation. Evolution. A true horror comedy hybrid... though mostly comedy.
Affable hillbillies Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are mistaken for murderers by a group of preppy college students. That's what it's all about, though the description doesn't really give you the full picture! You'll have to see it to really see it.
This is the second time I watch the movie, and the first time I would've given it a high five. I watched it with a buddy, and we were laughing non-stop throughout the film. Just couldn't stop. It was the funniest movie I'd ever seen, hands out. Second time around I don't get the same impression, even if I still enjoyed it, so maybe it's a film watched best with others, maybe it's one best watched just once, or maybe I was just in an appreciatively easily-entertained state of being the first time.
I can't go with a top score this time, but I'll leave you with a hearty recommendation to see this - unless you're queesy about a little blood, and leave out further spoilers in case it is a movie best enjoyed without further elaboration. It's great either way.
Props Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden and Jesse Moss on memorable performances! Though I don't recognize any of you by name now I hope I will in the future.
