A zombie love story with a happy ending?! Who would've known!
Though the zombies don't always seem like zombies (maybe that's because they're not), the future dystopia looks real enough. The Bonies are a big enough threat. The relationship gets warmer and warmer, the occasional vinyl playing in the background is hopeful and jumpy, and when it's all done I'm in such a happy mood I just... feel happy! It's great to be alive again! :D
If you want a different kind of zombie movie, without the scares and grime and despairful dystopia - but still a bit of suspense, give this one a go. The actors (mainly Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer) do their thing. The city does look abandoned. The thing about zombies gaining the memories of those they eat is a nice touch too, but most importantly: it's just a really feelgood movie, without getting all cheesy and chastised because of it. Great watch.
