The first X-Men movie tells the story of Wolverine, and Rogue - their meeting and bonding, and Magneto's twisted scheme - plotting to turn a large portion of humans into mutants as to change the way the world looks at them. But is that really all he's plotting? Compared to the sinister schemes of the sequels, it may not all be that bad, but still Xavier and his group of talents do their best to foil his plan.
There's a little backstory too. Charles and Eric. Good and evil. The political fractions arguing for and against the mutant populace - and what should be done about them, something you can see a reflection of in pretty much any other racial or discriminatory debate in the world today, which makes it all the more relevant and relatable. If this all happened with Trump as president... I wonder how it'd turn out!
The movie's good, with unexpected intrigue, and punchline too. If you know Marvel by now you know the style, and this is definitely one of their good movies.
Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine, Patrick Stewart Charles, Ian McKellen Magneto, Famke Janssen Jean, James Marsden Cyclops, Halle Berry Storm, Anna Paquin Rogue, Tyler Mane Sabertooth, Rebecca Romijn Mystique, and there's a bunch of others. Better check IMDB for the full cast. It's a real A-Team though, and it shows. Everybody plays their roles as well as the CGI team sculpt their effects, and the red line's easy to follow all the way through.
The characters are just like their comic-book counterparts too. It's like you stepped right off the page into their world - non-animate and real. Sequel's up next...
