Looks like I'm still stumbling upon Jackie Chan movies I haven't seen earlier! :D This one specifically is one I've been looking forward to watching for some time. It's not one of Jackie's better movies. In fact, you could say it's one of the ones you'd think he'd rather like to have wiped out of movie history, but it's not all bad either.
It features plenty of those stunts that got me hooked on movies like this in the first place: fighting on a platform, climbing a wall of containers, jumping over canals using springboards and poles and all sorts of dangerous stuff. And since this is the HK version of the movie there are a lot more stunts (see the other review for more notes on version differences).
The plot is pretty basic. Jackie and his buddy (his newfound buddy - his original buddy gets killed at the start of the movie) are cops. A girl is kidnapped, it's discovered that she might've been kidnapped by a HK gang boss/druglord, and so they travel to Hong Kong to get her back.
There they go on all sorts of adventures, and it ultimately ends with some sacrifice, some drama and a lot of action. Jackie does most of the hand-to-hand combat, and his buddy (played by Danny Aiello - now 81 years old and still going strong) does most of the shooting. There are a few other notable martial artists involved, amongst them one I know is a karate champion, but I have no idea what his name is.
The movie's not bad per say, but Hollywood and Jackie Chan had a bumpy ride over the years. First it was the Cannonball Run(s), then this, where he had a bit more control and was a bit more than just a sidekick... but it's still not his style. As a fan of action this was a good watch, it just didn't have the charm that characterizes most of his other flicks.
rated 3/5: not bad

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
