I thought 'Van Wilder' implied something else... like adventure. Like absurd action-based comedy a la Zoolander. Something like that. Turns out this was a way different thing, to the point I wondered if I was actually watching the right movie. But the main dude's main name IS Taj so...
Nation Lampoon sure do make feelgood movies though! Regardless of the strange name and the implications-of-something-else it gives me, I didn't mind it not being what I thought it was after all.
It may be a cliche teenage sorority kind of movie - with at least a few instances of unexpectedly perfect tits, and charming characters, who bond and break up and get together again in one final grand slam of cultural unity and lively intoxication before the final credit roll... but Kal Penn (aka Taj Badalandabad - the hound of hoot) really has a way with words, and a strange charisma, and the other guys aren't bad either. And girls. Lauren Cohan especially.
And Holly Davidson, and Amy Steel, and Beth Steel.... twins!
Didn't figure this movie would be all that special, but it feels good innit? It has an appreciative kind of naivete to it, being a real love and life story in a milieu that typically deals just with sex, and little substantial.
Not that it gets sappy or daft, it's just... wholesome. And refreshingly laid back in pace.
What a wholesome shot it takes at British aristocracy too - all the while showing that it's not really the whole power structure. It's just those few unscrupulous blokes that give all that smoke...
Good watch. Dope.

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
