Turns out the temple was a place of dragon worshipers, but that was probably a long time ago. Now it's lost and forgotten, and inhabited by no one it seems.

Thanks to Luffy dropping a pot of hot rice on Ryuuji's head he remembers! The 'Lost Island', the grand dragons nest, is east of Gunkan island (that's Apis island btw, it's called Gunkan because it's formed like a battleship), so, that's where they go.
