I haven't been following Detective Conan for a long time, and I haven't caught up with the series either, but it seemed to be one of those series that stayed Japanese even when most anime series where migrating to other parts of the world and gaining large followings of non-anime-fanatic fans. Now the one group that has been subbing Detective Conan tirelessly since ancient times is giving up by request. If you visit the site this is the notice that pops up.
Here's the official announcement:
Effective next week, DCTP will no longer be producing fansubs of the weekly Detective Conan anime episodes in recognition of legal restrictions from the current copyright holder of Detective Conan in North America, FUNimation Entertainment. This is a compliance measure being taken to hopefully preserve the community in favor of avoiding future legal complications.
We have had a great time subtitling the weekly episodes of the series over the past several years and have subtitled over 160 episodes on a weekly basis with no major lapses in between. We are thankful for the support fans of the anime have given us over the years and hope that our work has been something you have been able to count on to deliver consistent quality week in and week out.
What this means for our other Detective Conan anime projects that also fall into this legal sphere, such as projects involving the movies, has yet to be determined. We will have a further announcement on this matter once we come to a decision we are comfortable proceeding with.
With that said: As of this writing, DCTP intends to continue providing translations of the weekly manga files and will proceed with our other Detective Conan-related projects. Should anything change, we will make another announcement to inform you of the details.
Finally, we have decided after considerable discussion to release our final two weekly anime episode projects (for episodes 656 and 657) at some point in the upcoming week as a thank you and sendoff to our supporters. We hope you will enjoy them.
Thank you for the support,
The DCTP Anime Staff
So.. that pretty much subs it up. Ehm, sums it up. Nothing lasts, but it's been a blast.

Keeping the world since 2004.
I hope it at least gives some new groups some spotlight. I will always love DCTP, you made me watch the anime in the first place. (bows)
Same here, without them I would probably never have discovered the series. Puto Fansubs are doing a great job taking over though.
