WEIRD AL YANKOVIC

It's just past midnight, and I just came home from a concert. Weird Al Yancovic! Gröna Lund! His first time in Sweden, my first time at a (real) concert... but definitely not the last!

I don't have any pics to post, but when they put up the highlight video later on that'll be going here. Who knows, maybe I'm in it... if so probably looking oddly stiff and serious just head-bobbing while the crowd goes wild and wave their cellphones, yell and raise baby's on their backs. One of those babies just happened to rise up in front of me, though fortunately there was space to move around and get a better vantage point. What are baby's doing at a Weird Al concert anyway? That moment when he knocked down Santa those kids were probably scarred for life.

Weird Al played plenty of his greatest hits, and some (new ones I suppose) I didn't recognize, a polka medley of course, mixed up with improvisations and sketches, and at the very end a bunch of I-think-they-were Swedish children songs, though I can't say for sure: he hasn't really mastered that Swedish accent if they were! Entertaining nevertheless it was though, in true Yo Yo Yoda style of speech.

The highlights of the show were definitely the White & Nerdy intro, performed in part on Segway. Fat, performed in that jiggly suit he had back then. The Star Wars Anthem encore (or whatever it's called), after he really riled up the crowd with a 'I can't do any more!' sketch, and a bunch of classics played in rapid succession, each one greater than the next. I'd have loved to jump around a bit when Smells Like Nirvana blared on, but at that point the crowd was still pretty tame; I'm not the type to go crazy solo. Oh, and Amish Paradise, suit and all! Flawlessly performed, that one.

Some other pieces in his repertoire: Another One Rides the Bus, Canadian Idiot, Dare to Be Stupid, Eat It, eBay, First World Problems, Gump, I Love Rocky Road, It's All About the Pentiums, Like a Surgeon, Party in the CIA, Perform This Way, Yoda aaaand I'm sure there were a few more I don't recall by name. It was a pretty intense almost-two hours; though an impulsive venture, I'm glad I went!

Europe are playing tomorrow, final concert of the year at Grönan, might be worth a trip...

UPD: No recap video, but here's a follow-up!

This was pretty damn interesting. And yet, nobody's spoken! Be the first!
