STILL

He's a living legend and inspiration this dude. :) Wasn't expecting a documentary but I'm looking forward to it! Also - even though the trailer may be bland and compromising - this one.

You've Got To Get Up Every Morning With Determination...

You've got to get up every morning with determination if you're going to go to bed with satisfaction.

Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

This one aged... maybe a little worse than the other Star Wars movies, though the holographic circus and concert acts were cool.

There's a lot of focus on Chewbacca and family, though the main actors are barely there. Just quick cameos. And there's too much comedy - various bits and pieces meant to seem futuristic that somehow come across all the more old-fashioned now. How fast impressions change no?

Princess Leia sings though! It ends nicely. And the animated bits were nice.

If you liked old Star Wars you'll probably enjoy this too. It's like a time capsule of culture. Of the times, and the lore, and more.

If you haven't seen or care for the movies though... I wonder.

It feels like a special that'd appeal way more to fans than the casual viewer. You probably need some prerequisite experience of the Star Wars realm to know or enjoy the characters; appreciate the ways this differs from the movies, all the while staying true to the brand.

It's a different take on the Star Wars series for sure. Like a play more so than a movie. Theatrical. With enclosed locations - like stages.

It's special. A. For the fans.

Mummies (2023)

Mummies (2023)

It follows three mummies as they end up in present-day London and embark on a journey in search of an old ring belonging to the Royal Family, stolen by the ambitious archaeologist Lord Carnaby.

Warner Bros getting into animation too? Is this usual? And is that really an official movie summary...?

It's a little cliché this movie. And subpar. Predictable. Simple. For kids, of course... but it's also a wonderful love story that weaves in a timelessness you only really find in myth and legend. If only it was better scripted!

I feel like they could've done so much more with the conflict of cultures. They could've worked in more magic in their own world, and made the technology of the other one seem like so much more than it was.

Neither pillagers nor mummy villagers are sufficiently surprised at the radical differences between their respective worlds, though the underground society really is an awesome concept.

The tablet thing was a fun detail, but overall the amount of potential witticism and wonder such a clash of times and worlds entail is wasted. They could've done so much. It comes across more a feelgood love story than the truly magical monument of immortality and change that it could be - and seemed to be for a while.

I was hoping it'd take everything further.

It's wholesome, and I love the characters and concept, but it's unfortunately not without loose ends, plotholes and a lot of wasted potential.

Shark Waters (2022)

Shark Waters (2022)

It's another shark movie! With a less typical cast: A daughter with a strong bond to her father - and two ship mates - and then some. Of which at least a few get turned to chum by unreasonably vicious sharks.

The vastness and viciousness of the water really comes through.

The bubbles. The movements. No serene blue here initially - it's green and grimy and venomous from the start - and the scuba scene by the jet ski was done well. Great intro candidates there, the girl especially.

After that though...

Cliché. Bad special effects. Not so much bad acting as maybe bad directing? Drawn out emotional moments. Expressions that don't seem to reflect the scene. Bad planning. Bad choices. A script made to necessitate desperation, that otherwise is not that good...

It's a decent movie after all. The scenery's good. The characters are alright. It's just not the smoothest or most authentic. Not with sailing nor directing, nor in creating a captivating and essential flow of events when everything comes crashing down and those sharks turn up...

If you like the ocean (or shark movies in general) maybe it's worth a watch. They capture the mood. If not though best look for better movies.

Like Jaws for classics...

Happy Easter Y'all

Been catching up on some interesting reading lately, I bookmark too much...

Like for example here are various interesting charts over statistics from the past year, some of the best inventions of the past year, the main reason AI maybe isn't like us at all, the most popular toys for all birth years thus far (mine was the original GB - I do have one! Traded it for a Pokemon card), some powerful psychology-related visuals, interesting info on cola - though I don't fully agree with the aspartame bit - skim PubMed if you wonder why, and this site is pretty cool - you can for example get Snoop Dogg to send you a Birthday message. If you have the dough to spare. Or (cheaper) hire Kanye East for some prime political and/or hip-hop satire.

Also there was a pretty cool Andrew Huang and Rob Scallion thing a while back, and if you still play GTA SA you need the Gangster Sit Fix that Silent released this April. It's a game-changer. Literally.

All mods are literally game-changers aren't they? But... yeah, check it out. Sit down and partake in some of this stuff. Don't fall out of your seat now. Don't babysit. Learn. Grow. Become an evolved adult model humanoid.

In life-related news we've been celebrating a whole lot of Easter this recent weekend. Was away on Saturday, had egg hunts on Sunday, had guests today, have had a lot of sunshine and I really need to get my gym-related routines going for real again tomorrow as to process some of the seasonal surplus of sweet sweet chocolate-related edibles (edibles as in things you eat - they don't get you high - just your blood sugar) I've been binging...

Had some dream I planned on writing about but I forgot 'em.

I've been playing Golden Sun: The Lost Age a bit. Night time.

I'm almost through the game now... initially I loved every second of it, and totally immersed myself in the mystery word thereof, but eventually the puzzles become a bit much... it's a great game, with a good rate of progression, good fight trade and figure-things-out mechanics, great lore, dialog and character building, but it's a little puzzle-heavy - with a bit too expansive dungeon-style puzzles on some parts - and it's easy to get lost. Both in those dungeons and with your progress overall; not know where you should be heading next.

It's an open-world type game and sometimes a bit too open.

I am having fun with it though so that's the main thing. I found my way back to the main storyline yesterday too. Woohoo.

Summer's coming in quick now, I'm attempting to tan up without getting totally burnt, and so far managing! Save for those cheeky spots right under my eyes. Time for cream and selective spot-related shading strategies for optimal spread and progression... it's the same shizzle each Spring. Wonder if I'll get sun blisters this year, or if I'll manage the seasonal UV-raise related pacing and distribution a bit more ideally...

Y'all more thoroughly pigmented peeps have it easy!

See you in a week if the summer breeze keeps fleeting, my sleep does deepen; I don't keep depleting my soul and shun runs for Golden Sun fun.

Also updated the design page a bit. Been thinking for some time that I probably ought appear available and knowledgeable if some people do seek my work there - still more to do in that regard. But it's a start. To move to art. Branch out beyond company time.

Happy Easter! Feaster! Eater! Have some shine.
